Miyamoto: Zelda Wii will be “player friendly”

zeldaartmain

Shigeru Miyamoto has revealed that the next Zelda for Wii will have “player friendly” controls.

“For us, it is important to the to optimise gameplay and make the controls easier,” he told GamingMedia recently during a video interview.

“We do our best to make the controls player friendly, since Zelda has become complicated.”

He also adds the game will surprise people, although wouldn’t be more specific as to how that would happen.

“For us, two things are important: to meet expectations and to surprise people. How we do it this time, I will not reveal,” said Miyamoto.

“Normally, we create the video sequences, and these sequences are expanded. But this time we started with the game structure. And then with the video sequences. So this time it was reversed. Therefore, we have had little so far from the game to show. But will publish a lot close to the game’s completion.”

The new title was briefly teased by Miyamoto during a roundtable he hosted at E3 last year with a piece of concept art from the event, but this year’s event is expected to lift the cover off the game. Please, something like this, Shigs.

Thanks, D’Toid.

So its going down the ‘player friendly’ (read children and adults who dont play games) root?
So they’re going with waggle and shake the remote until something happens, while balancing on the Wii Fit board with a Vitalitiy sensor attached to your fingers then?

Yes, because any game that doesn’t revel in inch-thick manuals and six different type of control methods is somehow less of a game.

Player friendly? Previous Zelda’s controls have been spot on. If you can’t hookshot to a platform, quickly take out your boomerang, kill some flying enemies, back flip outta there and then play a tune on your ocarina then you are a nobody!

How exactly are the DS Zeldas “casual”?

@7
I’m with you there buddy. The DS Zeldas have been an absolute delight to play through and I would never have thought to describe them as ‘casual’ games.

They aren’t remotely casual but they are very accessible because the controls are well designed and uncomplicated. This is a good thing and is in no way related to the game’s sophistication or difficulty.

In design terms, simple is good. Simple is very hard to achieve. Complexity is bad. And easy to slip into.

Since when has Zelda ever been hard? Good lord, Nintendo must think people are slam-solami against U-Scan repete-. . .Then again I’ve seen this at work.

Woulda sold my Wii if my sister hadn’t swiped my Cube. Now I use it for GC titles like PSO.
