LBP2 might not be fully backwards compatible, says Media Molecule

lbp25

Media Molecule’s Alex Evans has told Edge that the recently-revealed LittleBigPlanet 2 might not be 100 percent fully backwards compatible with its predecessor.

Speaking to the UK magazine in its latest issue, Evans said that the dev team “might not succeed” with getting all levels from the original into the sequel thanks to “exploits people have used” in creating them.

“We may not get 100 percent backwards compatibility,” he said, “but I hope we do.”

He added: “It’s a really hard job to QA it, with millions of levels to get through. We might not succeed in all the exploits people have used.”

LBP2 was formally announced last week for a 2010 release for PS3. Hit up everything here for Joe’s visit to the reveal event last week.

Thanks, Gamerzines.

There will be more than enough stuff on LBP2 to keep me entertained, especially with making new levels out of the new features in this game and i spent ages making my LBP1 levels.

Like the guy says,it’s mainly due to exploits used in those levels, but who knows they might just get 100% BC.

I just hope that they will solve the problem. I used these exploits in my levels =(
Really sad news.

I would have thought the exploits from LBP 1 would have been built into LBP 2′s create interface somehow, so maybe it will mean just adjusting your level(s) Erthazus?

ps. What’s yer level(s) called?

I would have thought most people will be busy using the new create tools available and not overly concerned with old levels, but it sounds like old levels could be tweaked for LBP2 anyway if they dont just work straight away..

I hope they can retain the “extra layers” exploit. I used that extensively in my levels. MM used clips of one of my levels regularly in their ads for LBP, so presumably they don’t have too much of a problem with it.

with over 2 million levels of which many use exploits, this doesn’t surprise me.

the main thing is MM are aiming for 100% and are clearly going to try hard to get there which is what counts in my opinion.

They’re doing something very few sequels bother with, so if a few levels don’t make it across then no big loss.

Wow, this news took long to reach VG247. ^.^

Not sure if you consider it news worthy, but LBP2 will support mouse and keyboard. :)

@Syrok: dude all that and more was covered on the official announcement date of LittleBigPlanet 2 right here on vg247.

Note: May 10, 2010 was “officially” LBP2 day on LBP247, lol
