Greenberg: $200 Natal pricepoint is “purely speculation”

Microsoft’s Aaron Greenberg’s gone on record to say that speculation earlier today of a $200 price point for Project Natal is “purely speculation”, insisting that retailers don’t event know its price yet.
It comes as this morning, Swedish retailers had listed the camera for 1500 SEK, which translates into $200 (£132).
In a statement to PlanetXbox360, Greenberg said that details on pricing will be shared “closer to launch”.
Full statement goes as this: “Our retail partners are not yet aware of details on pricing for “Project Natal” and pre-order placeholders are purely speculation.
“We will share price details with partners and the public as we get closer to launch, but are working hard to bring ‘Project Natal’ to consumers this holiday, and it will work with every Xbox 360.”
Microsoft is expected to share more details at its special pre-E3 event specifically on Natal on Sunday, June 13 at the USC Galen Center in Los Angeles.
Naturally, we’ll be there.

No one’s going to be buying it if it’s €70 seperately.
That’s how I see it anyways.

Wouldn’t surprise me if companies upload these prices to obscure foreign retailers to gauge peoples reaction and price it from there,if there’s a shitstorm they lower the price.
In all seriousness,i can see it being 100 quid or more.

@3 I think it can’t cost more then 90 euro. Because what idiot need to buy a simple camera for more then 100 euro? I think it can’t even cost more then 50-60 euro.
Microsoft probably will bring this to every home possible making money out of the software.
Playstation Eye Camera cost 26 euro and it has already a library of games.

What are gamers expecting Natal to give them? As it’ll offer nothing in terms of delivering “great” games.
Natal is geared towards your mum, dad, grandpa, and other demographics alike, so it makes it easier for them to turn on their 360, browse through content, etc.
Did anyone see the driving demo controlled using Natal? Yeah, it was a fucking disaster.
Just don’t go expecting great games…
Incidentally, i hate Nintendo for starting all this motion controlled, swing yer hands, bullshit.

I speculate that it’ll be 119$ bundled with 3 sport/family games. It comes also at 299$ bundled with an arcade360 and said games.
Clue is:
newcomers get bargain box > M$ wins on all fronts
natal-only-bundle left HD-familydaddys no choice, plus it has a cool controlscheme for said familiydaddys > M$ wins on installed bases.

@6 The fact that you think it’s “a simple camera” proves you have absolutely no idea what you’re talking about, to be honest. It’s a motion capturing device.
There’s a difference.

@9 same goes to Playstation Eye after firmware.
Here you go: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gOtPVof2K94
and i know what is Playstation eye and Natal because i’m interested in technology.
Natal is a simple software technology that enables advanced gesture recognition, facial recognition, and voice recognition. Everything what it promises is possible with Playstation Eye by few Firmware updates and it already have facial recognition and voice recognition. It’s just have low resolution 2 cameras that feature extraction of 48 skeletal points on a human body at a frame rate of 30 hertz.
This thing can’t cost more then 50-60 euro and it’s still much for it. It’s the same thing, just with hype.

@9 I wasn’t aware firmware updates could add new hardware.
The technology in that video is very basic and limited, using extremely simply procedure to generate an object which is then embedded onto the screen, and tracking that movement.
The Natal takes a human body and creates a skeletal object within a 3D landscape.
“Natal is a simple software technology that enables advanced gesture recognition, facial recognition, and voice recognition.”
No it isn’t. It’s a motion capturing device. You seem to be incapable of understanding this very basic fact.

What is it with people doubting others’ gaming trivia? Like we don’t know our stuff.
I have this weird feeling that the listing, or price, is the 360 + Natal bundle. Rebranding the Arcade into something like the Natal console, with the Elite for anyone who doesn’t want one, makes sense to me.

@11 “I wasn’t aware firmware updates could add new hardware.”
It can enable features.
“The technology in that video is very basic and limited, using extremely simply procedure to generate an object which is then embedded onto the screen, and tracking that movement.”
Same goes to Natal. + They never even Showed face recognition. So how you can judge that Playstation Eye have a simple face recognition when it recognize everything?
This technology they researched since Smile Shutter in Sony’s Cybershot with auto detection. It is absolutely perfect.
and Natal? I don’t see a demo with facial recognition.
“The Natal takes a human body and creates a skeletal object within a 3D landscape.”
Same you can do with Playstation Eye using Cell processor by firmware. Whats the problem? It’s called skeletal mapping. Amateurs call it 3d landscape.
“No it isn’t. It’s a motion capturing device. You seem to be incapable of understanding this very basic fact.”
go read Wikipedia.

Skeletal mapping? So natal is going to bombarred us with X-rays?
