Study – 30% of people only play freebies

Newzoo has concluded that approximately 30 percent of folks don’t pay to play games.
According to the firm, these folks only play demos on PC, PS3, and Xbox 360, as well as the free-to-play games on Facebook.
This is all part of Newzoo’s Today’s Gamer Survey, which also found that more people are heading over to friends’ houses to play a bit of multiplayer.
At least that means that, as gamers, we’re getting a little less antisocial than is stereotypically thought.
You can read more about it over on Yahoo Games.
Thanks, Made2Game.

The trouble is something like this is that some shirt somewhere will twist it and claim that this equals 30% loss in sales. Of course thats stupid. To be honest with so many people losing their jobs over the past few years, I am often amazed at how well the games industry has weathered the whole thing.

Fact: if they’re playing a demo off XBLA then they’re already paying to play it, so the number is less then 30%.

Agreed.
No/less games for free to play, does not amount to more games being purchased.

No! As an XBL silver member you can dl/play free game demos (just 1 week later than paying gold members).
