Report – Iwata calls Apple products Nintendo’s “enemy of the future”

Nintendo’s president Satoru Iwata has supposedly told his senior executives to consider the “battle with Sony as a victory already won” and Apple’s iPhone and iPad are their “enemy of the future”.
This bit of information comes from Times Online, which reports that Nintendo is prepping for a marketing and development push against Apple after a 22 percent revenue drop in its last fiscal year.
According to the article, sources close to the company also claim that there is a bit of concern about the place, as both the hardware and software teams work to restore a bit of “surprise” to consumers.
With hardware, there’s always 3DS coming out sometime before March 2011, and then there’s the new Zelda game which has been kept under a cloud of secrecy for over a year now – and providing the public is impressed, both could be a boon to the company’s profits.
Hopefully, 3DS will impress at E3 next month and Nintendo’s new piracy strategy will eventually pay-off for the firm.
Thanks Syrok.

Sure, the DS/wii are an enormous success but in terms of software, I’m not sure if the Iphone can even compete with the shovelware that’s on the DS and Wii.
Comment on that.

Iphone, Ipad, etc has loads of shovelware but the difference is the apps are cheap not so much with Nintendo.
Once Steve Jobs is gone, Apple will be dead.

To think, ten years ago it was Sony who were claiming the battle between MS and Nintendo had already been won. Success breeds complacency, and with new handheld tech just around the corner, it would be very foolish to dismiss Sony out of hand at this point.
Don’t forget, they too have publicly announced that they intend to release competing products, specifically targeted at taking some of Apple’s market share away.

Basically this just proves you should ignore everything Reggie says. I’m so pleased Nintendo Japan are being more vocal at the moment. I like Nintendo Japan and their no nonsense approach. Reggie and the US side of things just seem to make bravardo, bullshit comments.

Erm.. isn’t this the guy who, a few years back, boldly declared that he doesn’t even consider Sony (or Microsoft) as competitors?

@5 Seeing how Nintendo owned the casual market while Microsoft and Sony battled it out over the hardcore, that wasn’t too far from the truth.

Do you think apple will get away form the realm of hardware like ipod, iphone and the latest ipad, as so many 3-pary software developers live on apple by providing services, for instance http://www.ifunia.com/company.html. All their hard works help apple attracting more customers. Can you tell me does who do this to Nintendo? So, battle with yourself.
