Guinness World Records has announced the all-time Top 50 Videogame Series as voted on by readers, and it looks like Halo, Call of Duty, and Zelda are the series over 13K of you loved the most.

The list is currently featured in the Guinness World Records 2010 Gamer’s Edition, which in turn lists all titles created for each of the series.

“We decided to take a different approach with this list than we did in the previous edition,” said Guinness gaming editor Gaz Deaves.

“Instead of asking developers, industry insiders and journalists to rank their favorite titles, we approached a different kind of expert: the players themselves.

“We are confident that this ‘top 50′ more accurately reflects the tastes of the average gamer and not just the critics.”

I can understand Halo and CoD being at the top not because they are popular right now but because of what they have done for modern console gaming, they changed the face of how people percieve games now

    #36 5 years ago
  37. Erthazus

    @36 you mean “idiots” right?
Minority of people have atleast taste for gaming. Thats the most important thing.

    #37 5 years ago
  38. G1GAHURTZ

No, I mean the majority of gamers who make gaming what it is.

Without said majority, minority whingers who have minority tastes might not even have an industry to talk trash over.

The minority are the ones with no taste in this case. Just jealousy of the better game.

    #38 5 years ago
  39. Erthazus

@38 Yes, but of course. Call Of Duty with old Quake 3 engine without decent physics, ballistics with no innovation is not a shooter in 2010 year. Everyday guy can pick up this crap and play. Same as with Halo by the way.
I think those majority of gamers are schoolchildren, Americans and e.t.c. then thats fine for that list. But they are not gamers.

Battlefield series was always one of the best warfare shooters. On the Pc it’s the same as Half-Life and i don’t see Half-Life on this list. They created everything what you see in the modern multiplayer shooters today (alongside with Counter-Strike). The pinnacle of multiplayer gaming were 5 games: Half-Life, Unreal tournament, Quake, Counter-strike and Battlefield. Thats it. Thats an absolute fact.

    #39 5 years ago
  40. G1GAHURTZ

    Blah, blah, blah…

Facts are facts. More people enjoy more hours of CoD than any other FPS.

    FACT.

If you like something else, or you can’t play CoD, then it’s your problem.

The technology is irrelevant. The graphics, the difficulty level, whatever you want to try and justify your minority opinion with, they all mean nothing.

The game as an overall package is simply better, and the majority of gamers say so.

Your opinion is worthless against the overwhelming evidence that CoD games are the best FPS’s around.

    #40 5 years ago
  41. G1GAHURTZ

And on another note. I’ve been playing BC2, and I have to say that all this ‘BC2 is the best FPS ever!!’ stuff is a complete load of nonsense.

The game has just as many irritating flaws as any other FPS!

It’s certainly nowhere near flawless. It may be the best looking FPS, but the gameplay is straight out of the 90′s.

    #41 5 years ago
  42. Erthazus

@40 can you show me the statistics of satisfying “gamers”? I don’t think so. IF you can bring me that fact, please. Come on.

“The technology is irrelevant. The graphics, the difficulty level, whatever you want to try and justify your minority opinion with, they all mean nothing.”

Nothing? Because Call OF Duty don’t have this what other have? Wowzer. What a great game. You stuck at 2004?

“The game as an overall package is simply better”

Without Ballistics, physics, vehicles, normal Russian voices, bad campaign, absolutely ridiculously plot that was made for a stereotyical consumer with the multiplayer that was straight from Counter-Strike? Give me a break. I played that game at 2000 year. Now it’s just more guns and stupid achievements and emblems that i don’t care about.

“the majority of gamers say so.”

Majority of idiots who don’t know about Battlefield and other great games at all.
This list is your majority. who have better marketing campaign, media and press wins.

“gameplay is straight out of the 90’s”

give the example, i only hear from you just butthurt fanboyism.

“And on another note. I’ve been playing BC2, and I have to say that all this ‘BC2 is the best FPS ever!!’ stuff is a complete load of nonsense.”

and it’s not the best FPS ever, but i can say you for sure, that it is the best Modern Warfare multiplayer to date. What they have done, no one did before. This what you saw from Battlefield you will see in the near future as always that was.

@43 yeah i saw about Half-Life after your post, Thank you. but i don’t see there Doom or Duke Nukem. That creeps me out. If this is what we call gamers

    EXCEPT NOT,

then the world of gaming is pretty fucked up.

  45. G1GAHURTZ

    Satisfaction eh??

Well… DO YOU THINK THAT PEOPLE WOULD KEEP PLAYING A GAME OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN IF THEY WEREN’T SATISFIED!?!?!!?!!??!!??

    Don’t be so ridiculous!!

You seriously expect me to believe that gibberish??

The majority of gamers are not idiots, YOU just have BAD TASTE in games! It’s as simple as that!

That’s precisely why you’re in the minority. Because you wouldn’t know a good game if it smaked you right in the face. You’re taste in FPS’s is based on an outright delusion, an inferiority complex and a pathetic sense of jealousy!!

No matter what ridiculous list of features you come up with, it will NEVER beat the simple statistical FACT that MORE GAMERS play CoD day after day than play that waste of space, rip off, boring, slow paced, unpolished, over rated game called BC2.

If BC2 was so good, then people would play it! I certainly would be all over it. I stopped playing CoD for about a week the other day because I just needed a break from it and started playing BC2…

    Sorry, but it’s rubbish.

    Rubbish by comparison!

Even people that I know who hate CoD and play BC2 all day long spend half their time getting angry and frustrated when they play the thing.

People play CoD and not BC2, because CoD is FUN! Something that both you and DICE both seem to have serious problems understanding.

The CoD series is statistically THE best selling FPS franchise, and therefore doubtlessly the most played FPS franchise around.

    FACT.

Infact, it’s the only FPS in the entire top 30 best selling game franchises in the entire history of gaming.

    Where is BF???????

Nowhere! because it’s nowhere near as good!!

    Simple.

    #45 5 years ago
  46. Erthazus

“You seriously expect me to believe that gibberish??”

No, i expect from you statistics. You want statistics of a gamer that whines everyday that Modern Warfare is shit in their opinion? I have a statistics.

    http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/ps3/modernwarfare2?q=Modern Warfare 2
    http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/pc/modernwarfare2?q=Modern Warfare 2

Look at the score and the comments. Better read comments. These people are GAMERS.

you need to show me how much gamers play PC version of Modern Warfare 2 everyday and Battlefield:Bad Company 2 on PC? Not a problem at all. You want it? If you want it i will show you and you will eat your trousers.
It’s very easy to do on Steam.

“That’s precisely why you’re in the minority. Because you wouldn’t know a good game if it smaked you right in the face. You’re taste in FPS’s is based on an outright delusion, an inferiority complex and a pathetic sense of jealousy!!

My god, you have serious problems. I mean serious and nothing will help you. I’m just sorry.

But come on, i asked you a question: show me the statisctics about gamers that play Call Of duty everyday, everytime and more then Battlefield

    Show me please.

    LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Yeah right!!

Those people are ridiculous PC FANBOYS like blackdreamhunk who stupidly waste their time hating on MW2 because they can’t HACK and CHEAT on their own private, glitched, servers full of illegal copies!!!

    How about this:

    http://www.metacritic.com/games/xbox360/scores/

    Oh dear. 7 and 9 > 51.

So there we have it. Not only is CoD the people’s choice, but also the critics choice as well!

Would you like to discuss awards???

How many GOTY’s have battlefield games won eh?

Come on Mr ‘DICE is teh bset EVAR’. You know that it’s a simple fact that CoD beats BF in just about every way imaginable.

    Sales
    Hours played
    Review scores
    Fan awards
    Critic awards

You name it, BF is nowhere to be seen.

    You want to see stats??

Look at the XBL charts, and that’s just one example. CoD4, WaW and MW2 are all still being played and BC2 has probably peaked. And where is BF:MC??? LOL!!!

We also already know that CoD4 is a world record holder, so lets add to that all of the people also playing MW2 and WaW, and I’m struggling to see how BF can even come close to competing…

The only one with serious problems around here is you. All you ever do is whinge and make negative comments about how rubbish things are.

Seriously, type your username into the search bar, look at as many comments that you can find and see how many of them are pointless, negative, whingey comments attacking games.

Yeah, Guinness just happened to find the only “misguided” 13,000 gamers in the world, didn’t they?

    Oh dear. 7 and 9 > 51.

My dear. It’s just game reviews, not people opinion. We are talking about time and opinion.

a 360 version. Choose for yourself.

“How many GOTY’s have battlefield games won eh?”

you have serious problems. There were no nominations. Battlefield:Bad company 2 released at February. It’s a start of the year my dear.

“Seriously, type your username into the search bar, look at as many comments that you can find and see how many of them are pointless, negative, whingey comments attacking games.”

Because i don’t whine like a schoolgirl about: I jizzed in my pants, AWESOME with every fucking game!?

and i’m still waiting for the statistics, i see here only fanboyism at it’s best. Thats it.

“Those people are ridiculous PC FANBOYS like blackdreamhunk who stupidly waste their time hating on MW2 because they can’t HACK and CHEAT on their own private, glitched, servers full of illegal copies!!!”

So you don’t know what is PunkBuster? If not, then why you call yourself a gamer? Maybe you are a casual gamer? Probably.

Blah, blah, blah… You still keep bringing the opinions of PC fanboys who just want to sabotage the game! 360 fanboys have been doing the same thing to PS3 exclusives and visa versa for a long time now.

This is simply a bunch of people like you and bdh who prefer to steep themselves in negaivity than do or say something positive.

you have serious problems. There were no nominations. Battlefield:Bad company 2 released at February. It’s a start of the year my dear.

Duh! You seem to be having problems reading my English there… I said BATTLEFIELD GAMES! Not BC2!!

Please go back to English school or something, because you clearly haven’t quite learned the language well enough yet.

Out of the entire middle weight, also-ran Battlefield series, how many GOTY’s have been won??

    Because i don’t whine like a schoolgirl about…

No, because you’re an annoying, negative whinger who can’t make a positive comment without slagging something else off.

Do you seriously think that people want to read your badly written whinges and moans about how much you hate this game or that series!?

    NO!!!

And regarding statistics… ARE YOU STUPID!?!?

Do you think that a world record breaking game for number of players + a world record breaking top selling game + another massive selling game are going to combine and still have statistically less players than an average selling FPS!?!?

    Are you seriously that stupid?!

If that’s the case, then even if you had the exact numbers in front of you, you almost certainly still wouldn’t believe them anyway.

    And as for “Punkbuster”!!

    Don’t make me LAUGH!!!

***Blah, blah, blah… You still keep bringing the opinions of PC fanboys who just want to sabotage the game! 360 fanboys have been doing the same thing to PS3 exclusives and visa versa for a long time now.***

So PC fanboys just sabotaged whole internet for its own satisfaction? Where did you thought of that? Fantasize much?

***Duh! You seem to be having problems reading my English there… I said BATTLEFIELD GAMES!***

Battlefield Games? Absolutely. Lots of nominations. Search at the internet. Battlefield is a pinnacle of a PC gaming. Always was.

“Please go back to English school or something, because you clearly haven’t quite learned the language well enough yet.”

Can’t . I live in the country where people don’t learn english and don’t speak it at all. Learning english is my hobby and what this have to do with the Battlefield and Call Of Duty?
With this i can say that you need to go to kindergarten and learn basic logic.

“No, because you’re an annoying, negative whinger who can’t make a positive comment without slagging something else off.”

Maybe because you are talking bullshit if you search for a little bit i say many good things to games that deserve it.
I appreciate many games and i have comments where i speak without negativity and anger. I agree that sometimes i’m a dick. Yeah, after university and work i’m a little bit angry.

    “ARE YOU STUPID!?!?”

    No, but you are.

“Do you seriously think that people want to read your badly written whinges and moans about how much you hate this game or that series!?”

No, they don’t. But some people want to read about an opinion and some not. If you don’t like to comment to me don’t do it. I see only fanboyism and negativity from you right now.

“Do you think that a world record breaking game for number of players + a world record breaking top selling game + another massive selling game are going to combine and still have statistically less players than an average selling FPS!?!?”

You mean this list of pathetic 13.000 schoolgirls and everyday guys like you who buy every bullshit that see on the net?

    YES, i think.

    “And as for “Punkbuster”!!

    Don’t make me LAUGH!!!”

Oh god, you found a link, now you know what is Punkbuster? Congratulations, you are a genius. You found what is Punkbuster. Pure awesomeness.

Ok. Lets end this. If you won’t show me statistics of GAMERS in the near 12 hours that play more Battlefield then in my eyes and other eyes you will be just a blatant Call Of Duty fanboy that just say: FACTS!!!111 ARE YOU STUPID? YOU ARE INSANE!!!111111 LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You need to understand that sales don’t make game great and it never did that and not every person who bought Call Of Duty is a gamer. Call Of Duty is just a very popular sub-culture franchise. A perfect example of a great marketing campaign, media, press releases and other stuff and Modern Warfare 2 is not a BAD game. It just fails to impress me because everything is outdated. I saw that at Counter Strike and other FPS long ago. As a hardcore gamer it will never impress someone. It’s old and boring.

    Oh, and don’t forget about

“gameplay is straight out of the 90’s”

    Examples please.

By that time i’m going to sleep. In my country it’s already 3 hours of night. Have a nice day fanboy.

  53. Uncontested

What a terribly shitty list. For fucks sake, Halo and CoD the top two series of all time? Get the fuck out. They barely should be in the top 20.

    #53 5 years ago
  54. G1GAHURTZ

So PC fanboys just sabotaged whole internet for its own satisfaction? Where did you thought of that? Fantasize much?

Since when is one website the whole internet??? Just look at their stupid petition to boycott MW2 with a supposed 40-50,000 (or whatever it was) names on it and you’ve got enough haters to try and sabotage the Metacritic score right there. Similarly minded people like you and bdh.

Battlefield Games? Absolutely. Lots of nominations. Search at the internet. Battlefield is a pinnacle of a PC gaming. Always was.

Wow, you really are just talking utter gibberish now. Who said anything about “NOMINATIONS”!? I clearly used the word “WON”, so where did “nominations” come from??

Same place as the rest of your lies??? This is why I mentioned your English.

Can’t . I live in the country where people don’t learn english and don’t speak it at all. Learning english is my hobby and what this have to do with the Battlefield and Call Of Duty?

Well, considering that English is the ‘international language of business’ and people learn it all over the world, you must live somewhere really anti USA/UK. Somewhere like… I dunno… Serbia??

If that’s the case, or something similar, then no wonder you hate American made games!! It’s not because they’re good or bad, but more about nationalism!

With this i can say that you need to go to kindergarten and learn basic logic.

No, you’re the one who’s lacking in basic logic skills, since you can’t even figure out that less people play Battlefield than play CoD.

    I agree that sometimes… …i’m a little bit angry.

    Sometimes!?!?!

How about 99.9% of the time?

If something else is making you angry, keep it to yourself!

No, they don’t. But some people want to read about an opinion and some not. If you don’t like to comment to me don’t do it. I see only fanboyism and negativity from you right now.

No, what you see is the truth being told, which is what you can’t handle, which is why you continue to talk nonsense.

You mean this list of pathetic 13.000 schoolgirls… …that see on the net?
    YES, i think.

What are you on about??? You seriously DO have a basic logic problem! CoD has a world record for being THE most played online game. That in itself contains a statistical FACT. I don’t need the exact figures to know that NOTHING ELSE BEATS IT. Especially not BC2, which has sold a fraction of the amount that CoD has.

CoD is CONSISTENTLY top of the XBL most played charts. You don’t need to know the exact figures to know that this means that MORE 360 owners alone play the game online than play Battlefield! Why is that so difficult for you to understand?? Those are simple facts that anyone with a BRAIN should be able to understand, so what is wrong with you?? What are you studying at ‘university’… the alphabet!?

you found a link, now you know what is Punkbuster? Congratulations, you are a genius. You found what is Punkbuster. Pure awesomeness.

Wow, do I really have to explain this to you?

    1. I say that PC gamers are unhappy because they want to cheat and play on glitched private servers.
    2. You bring Punkbuster up as if it means that there’s no possible way to cheat on your own private server.
    3. I prove that Punkbuster can be turned off on private servers.
    4. You fail at logic and completely miss the point.

    Stop wasting my time.

Ok. Lets end this. If you won’t… …Call Of Duty is just a very popular sub-culture franchise. A perfect example of a great marketing campaign… …Modern Warfare 2 is not a BAD game… …As a hardcore gamer it will never impress someone. It’s old and boring.

No, this ‘ended’ a long time ago in reality. You just keep coming back for some stupid reason.

    CoD beats BF in:
    Sales
    Hours played
    Review scores
    Fan awards
    Critic awards

It beats it by a long way, in fact. There’s no conspiracy here either. It’s not some ludicrous case of your average non-gamer seeing a CoD advert on TV, then going out, buying it and only playing it once.

Maybe in your mind, but not in the real world.

In the real world, BF’s marketing/media campaign was probably much bigger that CoD4′s, but probably won’t end up seeing even half of CoD4′s eventual sales total.

In the real world half of BC2′s sales are probably because EA tried to fool people into believing that it was MW2! Similar advert, similar style, similar artwork, etc. They even refer to MW2 IN THE GAME SCRIPT! They just kept on copying.

    Oh, and don’t forget about
“gameplay is straight out of the 90’s”
    Examples please.

I don’t need to explain anything to you, as you clearly have problems admitting the truth. My 360 version of BC2 is quite simply not much better than FPS’s I played in the 90′s at the end of the day.

By that time i’m going to sleep.

You need to revise ‘will or going to’.

Context mate. It was an irony troll/ragequit at the rampant idiocy being posted by a few of the regular trolls which was just getting out of hand.

Guess what happened right after that? TEA, BDH and a few of the other more obnoxious posters piped down and sanity was restored for a while.

Now this retard Erthazus is stinking up the place with inflammatory bollocks. I’d like him to shut up, permanently if possible.

See, I own a PS3. I like it and I play it regularly, but anything not 100% sucking Sonys cock is viewed as 360 fanboyism by this braindead goon, and he just wont shut the hell up.

Just be happy that your favourite game is in the first place. ;)

This is nothing to do with what game is #1. I don’t care. This is nothing to do with platform, sales figures, resolutions, rating or whatever else.

This is about you derailing threads with insubstantiated rubbish and making posts that you KNOW will rile people up.

This is about you being a troll. This is about you ruining comment threads.
