Gears 3 info translated from Russian mag [Update]

Gears 32

Update: Cliff Bleszinski has just tweeted not to “trust badly translated leaked scanned info on Gears 3″, as there’s “lots of false info out there”. So, take it for what it is until we can get more info.

Original: In Soviet Russia, pictures loud speak then words!

Warning: spoilers, innit.

Mind them scans earlier this morning of Gears of War 3 from a Russian magazine? They’ve been translated already. In a basic gist, as much as our brain can compress, here’s what we know.

  • Epic reiterates Gears 3 will end Marcus Fenix’s trilogy, but the series will continue in the forms of spin-offs, prequels and even “a transition to a new genre”.
  • It takes place a year-and-a-half after Gears 2. After the fall of Jacinto, the government and COG collapsed with it.
  • Humans who survived the Hammer of Dawn offensive from Gears 2 have gone off and formed separate tribes to fight for their survival. Anyone who didn’t has its remains in ash, hence the Ashes to Ashes trailer. Locust are in a similar situation
  • Ravens Nest seems to be the name of the man-made island that is in the sea. It can travel as well.
  • COG leader Prescott disappears, but soon shows up at an airbase on the man-made island shown in the scans. Mag mentions that Marcus gives him the eye, but also something else: a recording from Adam Fenix, Marcus’ father, who tells him how to save Sera. Oh, and here’s the kicker: Adam’s still alive.
  • Cole and Baird now have their own storyline at some point in the game.
  • Anya, according to the translations, “turned into a…badass, let her hair loose, put on armor, and now fights alongside Marcus.” Other than Anya, there will be other female characters in the game.
  • Lambent are now seen as the main enemy, not the Locust, and are also able to charge up to at least three Gears at a time whenever they’re close to dying and explode.
  • Other new weapons include a grenade launcher that contain earth-drilling rounds and a riffle that shoots single rounds alongside the already announced double-barrelled shotgun.
  • Difficulty in the game will be lowered, with story and character development also included, due to at least 60 percent of people not finishing the last game.
  • Multiplayer environments will also change and will constantly shift during a match, although it’s not explained how.

There’s more info here.

We want and we want now. E3 can not come soon enough.

Gears of War 3 releases on April 8, 2011 in Europe for 360.

Thanks, ybfelix.

Epic reiterates Gears 3 will end Marcus Fenix’s trilogy, but the series will continue in the forms of spin-offs, prequels and even “a transition to a new genre”. + strategy games like Greed Corp and we will see spinnoffs and these game in the 10 years Johnny

They also say in the Mag that every weapon will have it’s own 1 QTE special kill.

“Difficulty in the game will be lowered, with story and character development also included, due to at least 60 percent of people not finishing the game.” — Cliff Blezinski saying about a CASUAL mode. Other modes like Hardcore will be the same.

“Multiplayer environments will also change and will constantly shift during a match, although it’s not explained how.” – Explained. Some parts of Levels will change during an earthquake for example. One part changing then another and e.t.c.

@2 Chill out twinkletoes, there will still be four difficulty settings. I suspect it will just be easier on the lower levels.

I’m not surprised they’re trying to make it more accessible, the first time I played GoW1 I played like a complete prat. I didn’t use cover, didn’t work out how to active reload and I couldn’t work the torque bow. Until you work that stuff out you will die a lot.

The only thing in the first two games that was unfairly hard was RAAM, they made him too powerful.

Epic needn’t be too alarmed about 60% of people not finishing the game – 25% of people playing HL2 Episode 2 didn’t even play as far as meeting an Acid Antlion. That’s about 30 minutes of play.

Are achievement stats available for everyone to see?

    somewhere on the web?

    somewhere over the rainbow?

    it’s behind me, isn’t it?

Hmm, I played Gears 1 on Normal and went straight to Hardcore in Gears 2 thinking “well, Gears 1 was pretty much training I suppose”. Yeah, I recall some frustrating sets that took a few tries to get through, but not that bad.

I suppose the difficulty of the campaign isn’t that important anyway since most people will spend more game hours in the multiplayer anyway.

Gears 2 had some frustrating bits in Hardcore mode, specifically the “on-rails” or “protect something” bits. Those were nothing compared to Raam in the original game, though – he was just ridiculous.

I don’t think they need to tweak it much, though – I get the idea that loads of players play games for a couple of hours and then move on to the next thing. That doesn’t necessarily mean that they’re too hard or inaccessible, just that the majority of people have very short attention spans.

Looking at 360voice’s GTA IV page, for instance, nearly 80,000 people have fewer than 100 gamer points on it, which means they bought it and made practically no progress.

I didn’t find Gears 2 hard at all really, easier then the first one for sure!

: a recording from Adam Fenix, Marcus’ father, who tells him how to save Sera. Oh, and here’s the kicker: Adam’s still alive.

Well that was pretty much a given with the ending to 2 wasn’t it

Oh yeah and i don’t think their necessarily saying there will be a strategy game like Greed Corp, i think there refering to the fact that the Mistbound Universe in which Greed Corp is based iS getting another 2 games based around the same characters and units but a different genre with the next one being a top down shooter

    60% of people wouldn’t know it’s a given :D

Mington, if you click a game on the new steam in the list view, games like HL2 have a link there where you can view % of people who’ve gotten certain achievements.

I’ve just been checking out the achievement stats on giant bomb. Interesting stuff.

    http://www.giantbomb.com/achievements/tenpeat/45097/
    7.5% :) who da man

    #14 4 years ago
  15. Blerk

Giant Bomb’s stats seem to suggest that nearly 74% of players completed Gears, nearly 80% if you count the people who played it on Casual. I think that’s pretty good.

Only 44% did it on Hardcore, though.

Members of websites like giantbomb would by core gamers that would probably be more likely to see games like Gears through to its end.

I’d love to be able to see real world stats of all recorded gold members, i can’t think of a reason why Microsoft would keep them secret.

That would be such a cool feature, actually on XBL on your xbox as well

    #16 4 years ago
  17. Blerk

Ah, so that’s only for Giant Bomb members? I thought you’d stumbled upon some magical “global achievement stats” portal.

Gears of War 2 was so fucking easy, how did 60% of the people who play the came not even finish the game even on the easiest difficulty?!

  19. G1GAHURTZ

Gears 2 was relatively easy on Insane.

Nothing like the RAAM fight at the end of Gears 1.

It’s the second hardest part of a game that I think I’ve ever had to do after the Mile High Club achievement in CoD4.

    #19 4 years ago
  20. mington

I don’t think RAAM was that difficult on hardcore i’ve got the achievement for it, i never got mile high though :(

I found both of the turret sections in GoW2 to be horrendous difficulty spikes, at least playing on Hardcore or above. I have a pretty high tolerance for such things, too; for a frame of reference I defeated RAAM on Insane playing solo. Other than that I don’t remember it being a particularly difficult game, though.

Anyway, here’s a good old Ctrl+V of my comment from elsewhere:

“Sleeveless Marcus has ruined any illusions I might have had about his armour being a predominant reason for the preposterous bulk. His melon smuggling ways do highlight the hilarity of Dom’s grief-beard, I suppose.

I’m a bit wary about the Lambent being the primary enemy force. Whilst I might not like Gears‘ character designs, one of the strengths of the Locust is that they are, for the most part, humanoids with guns. Fighting enemies that are at least ostensible equals to the player character with the same capabilities and weapons make for the best non-setpiece opposition, usually.”

Managed to finish it on hardcore as well.
I found the bit where you are driving through the tunnel with the thingymagic after you the worst bit.

Hardcore is pretty easy in both gears games to be fair, Gears 2 isn’t too hard on insane either. Gears 1 on the other hand has a few hard bits on Insane, getting out of the mansion at the end of the 4th chapter, turret bit on the train shooting at the reavers and then theres RAAM who is a absolute joke with any miss step leading to instant kryll death

EDIT – Oh just remembered hardest bit of Gears 2 on insane is where you get split into 2 teams of 2 in the 4th chapter and your either side of a huge hall and baird just kept being a cunt a running off like a psycho getting himself killed again and again!

“Anya, according to the translations, “turned into a…badass, let her hair loose, put on armor, and now fights alongside Marcus.” Other than Anya, there”

oh DAMN MAN! Why did they do that!? we need a badass chick like Dizzy instead of the same character?
it’ll be cool to have another COG team like Tai, but they contain females and that blonde chick was one of them and also the survivor. So she joined Gears team.

Epic don’t know how to tell good story nor expand universe and character wise:/

At one point, I was actually going to make a blog called I-hate-Dom.com where I would point out that Dom is the most utterly useless squad mate in the entire history of squad mates and that I would rather play the game alone than have to rescue the complete waste of space every few minutes!

    I still hate Dom, btw…

In fact I laughed at the Maria scene! Mwahahahahaaaa!!!

  27. DaMan

Maria scene was in fact so crappily done that I kinda lol’ed too. seriously, I’d rather not have story sequences at all than something like that.

    Why did he shot her?

she was a little emaciated, but nothing a Berocca wouldn’t have sorted out.

maybe he really hated the bitch and he was just trying to track her down to pop a cap in ho ass

    #28 4 years ago
  29. DaMan

apparently Dom realized the bitch cheated on him while being with Locusts..

    #29 4 years ago
  30. DJ Deathstar

He shot her so he could skull fuck her corpse i’m pretty sure, and yes i lol’d to at that point

    #30 4 years ago
  31. DaMan

oh, probably. also, maybe she looked so used up because she had too much fun with the locust guys? hence, Dom got angry and decided to shoot the cunt.

    #31 4 years ago
  32. Blerk

You guys are ridiculous. Obviously he shot her so he could get it on with Marcus.

Mile high club try that on Cod 4 if you want a challenge, i did Gears 2 on Insane never did the first tho.

Dont worry, i’m sure Dom will suddenly remember he has another family member to save. A daughter no doubt.
