“We will still support Halo: Reach post-release”, says Bungie

Sunday, 2 May 2010 20:15 GMT By Johnny Cullen

Halo Reach

Bungie community director Brian Jarrard has assured that despite the studio’s newly found commitment to its recent deal with Activision on its new IP, it will still support Halo: Reach after release.

Speaking in an interview with Develop, he says that “some portion” of the developer will stay on and help support the title.

“Microsoft still owns the Halo IP,” says Jarrard, “but we will still support Reach post-release and we have a great relationship with our community, so we want to make sure we keep the game going.”

But he reiterates what he told VG247 in an interview earlier this week following the announcement of the Acti deal, saying that Reach, after working on the IP for ten years, will be Bungie’s last Halo game.

“But beyond that we will not be working on any more Halo – we will be completely focused on bringing our next universe to light.

From there Microsoft will take the Halo universe in the direction they see fit.”

343 Industries, led by ex-Bungie alumni Frankie O’Connor, is now managing the IP.

Halo: Reach releases this fall, with the multiplayer beta for the shooter beginning for the general public tomorrow.

is 343 the ones who are meant to be working on this so called X-Engine? I think reach is the last halo on 360 and whatever future story/mythology they intend to bring will be on the next console.

    #1 5 years ago
  2. Phoenixblight

I disagree they will release atleast one more after all there is 3-4 more years til they announce the next gen system that is quite a long time to not release a Halo game for MS.

    #2 5 years ago
  3. daytripper

no disagreeing with you per say but how do you know we wont see a new xbox until 3-4 years time?

    #3 5 years ago
  4. Erthazus

@3 Microsoft is not ready for releasing new console and they said it last year at E3 that they don’t need to launch a new console + Aaron Greenberg said about 5 year Natal life span. + Recession shows that people don’t want new consoles and we are only at the beggining of the middle term of console life span.

    #4 5 years ago
  5. xino

oh please, I bet they’ll release a few maps and weapons and call it quits. That’s what they all say.

    #5 5 years ago
  6. daytripper

i thought they might release a new console around 2012 but still support the 360, like Sony did with the PS2/PS3. I’m happy with the 360 and its games so if Microsoft just want to support that for a few more years i’m happy.

    #6 5 years ago
  7. Freek

They’re not releasing Natal next year only to go “oh forget that, here’s our new console”.

    #7 5 years ago
  8. Phoenixblight

No THey mentioned that the new system wouldn’t be announced til 2012 but the goal is to release the new system around 2014-2015 to give the 360 a 10 year lifespan same goes for the Ps3. Supposedly to help with the economy.

And what Freek says SOny and MS aren’t pushing these motion controls to ignore it a year later.

    #8 5 years ago
  9. daytripper

well if they are both releasing around 2014-2015 just imagine what the visual/animation quality of the games will be like :D !

i’m not really clued up totally in the development of titles/consoles so i’ll ask anyone here who is, do you think we’ll get much better visuals close to cg movie type quality or will that be another generation?

    #9 5 years ago
  10. Erthazus

@8 they can’t show new console until Next Generation videocard and Next Generation 64 bit multicore processors will be revealed. We are not there right now. There will be no next generation consoles in 2012.

@9 Play PC games with GTX 295.

    #10 5 years ago
  11. Phoenixblight

It won’t be up to the point of CGI but it will be a step closer. What stops the game industry to get to that point is hardware and the cost of making them. Analysts have said it will be atleast 10 years til we see CGI graphics or games without being made with polygons.

I said announced not released. There is a difference.

    #11 5 years ago
  12. Gekidami

“Play PC games with GTX 295.”

Why? Its not magically going to make every game look like something from the future. The best looking PC game is still Crysis (released over 3 years ago), theres been an utter standstill ever since.
No need to splash out on the best hardware for no reason whatsoever when games that use it arent coming.

    #12 5 years ago
  13. Erthazus

@12 Actually thats more like a future. Consoles can’t make HBAO, SSAO, 16x CSAA, 16x filters, right facial animations, Direct X10-11 effects. It’s very important.

Resident Evil 5 on PC looks graphically much better then (!) Uncharted 2 if you have everything on max settings including Direct X10.

The future of consoles will be a massive multicore and multithreaded 64-bit Power Architecture processor.
There is already one on the market that is called PowerPC A2, it’s a Cell Broadband Engine (That PS3 have) successor. They are going to be more complex and use more then One billion transistors.

Basically, judging by that processor, we are going to have graphics like from Crysis from PC (Only on consoles, PC will have x2-x10 times better of course) with x6-x16 scale level of God Of War 3, depends on how much cores will be within the processor.

No motherfucking company right now can’t take a risk to develop next generation console with this processor, so it’s going to be a long time for a new consoles with such power, or we will see much weaker version of Quad core processor with huge amount of RAM.

    #13 5 years ago
  14. Gekidami

“Resident Evil 5 on PC looks graphically much better then (!) Uncharted 2 if you have everything on max settings including Direct X10.”

    #15 5 years ago
  16. Erthazus

look at the fucking details of the PC version. If i will show you console version of Uncharted 2 characters you will shit your pants.

and i showed you just a Resident Evil 5 game. For a PC graphical benchmark in 2010 is now an outdated pile of horse crap that don’t even deserve a mention.

    #16 5 years ago
  17. Phoenixblight

I am just going off what both SOny and MS have said that they want the PS3 and Xbox 360 to have a 10 year life span and they said they should have something announced around 2012. If they will have the capabilities you have said is entirely different subject.
But if they do go with Quadcore and a lot of ram the game industry will be at a stranglehold as far as how games will look because Game publishers and developers want the games to be console before PC so their developement will be based on that and PC ports will only go so far based off that developement.
Developing and Researching for a console is a costly project so who knows what the next gen will be like.

    #17 5 years ago
  18. Gekidami

Those screenshots really arent helping your case, sure the textures on the clothes look nice (atleast on Chris they do, Sheva looks terrible) but everything else looks like crud.

    #18 5 years ago
  19. Erthazus

@16 Compared to Uncharted 2 characters it looks much more realistic.
Not to mention that Resident Evil 5 was just a port.
Look at the enviroments, anti aliasing and other stuff looks real compared to Uncharted 2. – this is really bad.

In terms of desing Uncharted 2 looks much better then Resident evil 5, but we are talking about the graphics.

    #19 5 years ago
  20. Enkeixpress

The Graphics on Uncharted 2 look better than Resident Evil 5 on both console & PC

    #20 5 years ago

What will make a company more money? PC version or console? Thats why that topic will only go so far.

    #21 5 years ago
  22. Anders

Do we really need to go through this yet again? Which game is superior, which console is superior, which game looks best – it’s all subjective.

    #22 5 years ago
  23. Erthazus

@20 said the guy that didn’t played Resident Evil 5 game on PC with max settings.
To say this statement can only a fanboy. Yes, in terms of design Uncharted 2 is much better, but in terms of graphics you must be a complete idiot.

    Get out.

@22 we are talking about future generation graphics on consoles and i just showed what games could be on PC that are multiplatform.
Multiplatform titles look much better on PC then any PS3 exclusive game or multiplat game on 360 or PS3. Not just better, it’s a day and night. What PS3 graphics chip is? RSX. RSX is a graphics chip of Geforce 7600-7800 power. We are already at Gerforce 480 GTX. There is a giant difference.
We are not talking about which game is better.

    #23 5 years ago
  24. David Sarkisjan

@19 Can you please tell me what’s “really bad” on that screenshot?

    #24 5 years ago
  25. Erthazus

    1) Too much blur

    2) Bad level of detail (outdated textures)

    3) No soft shadows

    4) Looks bad without Anti Aliasing and Anisotrophic filter. No VSYNC, no HBAO that is important in 2010.

Looks like almost any multiplatform game in terms of graphics, but it is the best looking game on consoles with the design and technology inmplementation.

    #25 5 years ago
  26. Phoenixblight

If you have an eye for that type of thing. I think its gorgeous. Graphics aren’t everything in a game btw look at Fallout 3 on the console hell MW2 is even better example. Gameplay > Graphics

    #26 5 years ago
  27. Erthazus

@26 I agree that gameplay is more important then graphics. But i buy Next Generation Console or PC for Next Generation Games.

For example, Mario have great gameplay mechanics, or Metroid:Other M. but have shitty outdated graphics from previous generation.

    #27 5 years ago
  28. Phoenixblight

ANd that is Nintendo’s business model to sell a system that is cheap but offer a lot of options for the casual.

There is no point in arguing over what is better the PC is better with technology but with companies porting to PC the PC game can only go so far. THats why Crysis looks as good as it does because it was exclusive to the PC.

Jessica Simpson wore these sensational sandals by YSL recently in a pretty pink hue, though this neutral tone offers a lot more versatility. The one and a half inch suede covered platform adds cushion and comfort for those long days and nights out. As well, the five and a half inch stilettos of these beige shoes will elongate your frame fabulously. And, the rounded open toe leads up to the cut-outs and criss-cross straps that continue to the sling-back. There is also an adjustable buckle at the side of these YSL shoes.

  30. Gekidami

Yeah Erthazus, and you’ve clearly hand picked your screenshots to.
These look alot better then anything in RE5:

Compare those to the turd you see here:

Apart from the Chris character model everything else pales in comparison. Use your eyes rather then hardware specs to judge what looks best, you’ll look less like an idiot and a fanboy (though that’ll be hard because you clearly are one).

And anyway, that wasnt even the point. The main point is that it dosnt matter how technically better PC hardware becomes, or how many graphic enhancing techniques you list. The fact is PC GAMES ARENT USING THESE ADVANTAGES, thats why -still after 3 years- Crysis is still the best looking PC game around and many consoles games look better then most of whats on PC.

Even the Crysis 2 devs admit that after 3 years nothing looks as good as Crysis on PC despite the hardware changing drastically.

I mean, can you give me any decent examples of upcoming PC games that actually look like they’re pushing visuals that REQUIRE you to have the latest technology?

    #30 5 years ago
  31. Norlick

Gekidami, you realize that you yourself are cherry-picking only the best Uncharted 2 screenshots against the worst RE5 screenshot you could find, right?

For example, some of those shots you posted of Uncharted 2 are from cutscenes, which look much better than gameplay because it uses what would be going towards AI and level rendering and shit to instead improve graphics further.

And is it me or is accusing somebody of being a fanboy just a convenient way of detracting from their point without actually addressing it?

By the way, there are no PC games that ‘REQUIRE you to have the latest technology’ because doing so means the game will not sell to anybody who doesn’t have the latest technology.
It feels like thats just too self evident to state, but you asked.

Now if you all don’t mind I’m gonna go disappear back into my hole.

    #31 5 years ago
  32. Gekidami

“For example, some of those shots you posted of Uncharted 2 are from cutscenes”

Heh, actually none of them are. Which just goes to show, really.

As for the RE5 shot, i didnt pick it, it was one Erthazus posted as an example of ‘superior graphics’.

“By the way, there are no PC games that ‘REQUIRE you to have the latest technology’ because doing so means the game will not sell to anybody who doesn’t have the latest technology.
It feels like thats just too self evident to state, but you asked.”

Yep and i agree, PC devs dont want to make their games to demanding and thats why they arent. Its the basis of my orginal statment; “No need to splash out on the best hardware for no reason whatsoever when games that use it arent coming”.

    #32 5 years ago
  33. Erthazus

@Gekidami, you realise that what pics you showed is just a DESIGN. In the design aspect Uncharted 2 have no competition.
But graphics sucks. It’s the best on consoles but for 2010 it’s not the best. If you don’t have Direct X10 or 11 effects it’s outdated and you don’t need an eye to see this. Consoles use Direct X9 and X8 effects at max and thats a 2005 year.

I’m a fanboy and an idiot? Prove me, or i need to show you my PSN ID when i finished Uncharted 2 with Platinum trophie? I know how looks both games in motion. I have PS3 and PC and i don’t fucking care about your console and PC wars, i just know what looks best. I bought 285 GTX and after few multiplat games on that graphics card: EVERY FUCKING GAME ON CONSOLE LOOKS LIKE A HORSE CRAP. FACT! UNCHARTED 2 LOOKS LIKE CRAP TO MANY MULTIPLAT GAMES with Direct X 10-11 effects and without true 1080P.

I played Resident Evil 5 and Uncharted 2. Uncharted 2 looks bad, compared to even Resident Evil 5 game and this is just a port, i can go on about other multiplatform games.
You know how will Rage look at the high end PC? It will burn every motherfucking game on consoles by it’s look.

***PC GAMES ARENT USING THESE ADVANTAGES, thats why -still after 3 years- Crysis is still the best looking PC game around and many consoles games look better then most of whats on PC***

    Bullshit. Ok?
First of all play PC games then talk shit. I can’t argue if you never played a PC game with Physx and other great effects.

Do you know how GTA looks at the PC? Or Batman:Arkham Asylum? Or Battlefield:BAD COMPANY 2? If you don’t know, then just shut up.;26;35

This is an example, if you don’t see anything, you must see a doctor.

You never played a PC games that use it’s advantage. Like ANNO 1404. There are still games that use PC hardware very well.

and again, you talk shit. Never heard of a game that is called METRO 2033? It uses PC capabilities or i need to demonstrate you PC screens on it? How it uses tesselation?

    #33 5 years ago
  34. Gekidami

Yeah, keep stating your opinions as fac-oh sorry “FACT!” and maybe the tooth fairy will come along and make it true. Intill then, i’d rather go off what i can see with my eyes rather then whats written on the back of a box when it comes to judging visuals.

So enjoy your muddy textured RE5, and i’ll stick to UC2 which apparently has “HORSE CRAP” graphics despite having won several awards for its visuals and being one of the best looking games ever in most peoples opinion (though not yours, and we all know how your opinion is the only one that counts [see your posts about Halo]). And we’ll leave it at that.

    #34 5 years ago
  35. Erthazus

It won several awards for DESIGN achievement. Graphics is not only technology and you don’t understand it. In the graphical design Uncharted 2 is the best game to date and i agree with that, but in terms of technology it is outdated pile of horse crap.

you said about muddy textures you are wrong when you can enable Anti aliasing to the 16x CSAA level for RE5. You know what is this level of Anti Aliasing? This is a level of the Crysis game. + i can play TRUE 1080P Resident Evil 5 game, not some 720P

PS3 have RSX similar to 7800 GTX geforce
Xbox 360 have Xenos chip that is similar to old ATI Radeon X1900

You fucking can’t make games look great with these graphics cards. It’s impossible to do that. Can you fucking understand that? Even if Sony with it’s CELL processor will use Morphological Anti-aliasing and use cores to read graphics chip it’s still going to be outdated for 3-4 freakin’ years.

You obviously don’t even have a clue on how great PC games look like on real 1080P with all effects. Even horrible multiplatform game on PC can look like a real deal. Every multiplat game look like a three steps far ahead then console version.

Companies like Crytek, ID Software, 4A Games and many more use the capabilities of the PC.

This year at Quakecon we finally going to see a PC version of DOOM 4 and Carmack said that it will use full capabilities of a PC version, such as RAGE with ID 5 engine.
Metro 2033, Crysis 1,2. There are a lot of games that use PC capabilities for it’s full potential.

I remember Crysis 2 trailer for consoles. It’s just sucks. It’s a low settings with high shaders, with shitty textures, lightning and shadows. It’s just really cheap.

Sure buddy, whatever. At this point debating with you is as constructive as debating with BDH; You both state opinion as solid fact. It must be a PC fanboy thing.

BTW, add more swearing, it totally makes you look more mature.

  37. Erthazus

@36 But you are so constructive? I give you the characteristics of videocards. You don’t give me nothing. You think, that Uncharted 2 made on RSX graphic chip that was created at 2005-2006 is better then Resident Evil 5 on PC that use NEXT GENERATION CARD.

    Can you make a difference?

If not, get the fuck out.

You are not constructive at all, because until you will play a PC version, listening to you saying crap like: Uncharted 2 have the best graphics is ridiculous.

And we are already at the 200 series of Geforce that make multiplatform games look really great compared to any console game.
+ We are at the start of the 400 series. You just don’t have a clue what is a PC version.
