Splinter Cell Conviction hits US Steam, Euro version to cost €50

The latest Splinter Cell is now available on the American version of Steam ahead of a European launch later this week. Warning: it’s not cheap.
The US version costs $60, or $65 for the Deluxe Edition. The European Deluxe Edition, releasing this Friday, is to cost an eye-watering €55; that’s $73 in good ol’ greenbacks.
Europeans can pre-load the standard version for €49.99. Yay.
And remember: you must have a reliable internet connection to play the PC version of Conviction thanks to Ubi’s PC DRM. From Steam:
A PERMANENT HIGH SPEED INTERNET CONNECTION AND CREATION OF A UBISOFT ACCOUNT ARE REQUIRED TO PLAY THIS VIDEO GAME AT ALL TIMES AND TO UNLOCK EXCLUSIVE CONTENT. SUCH CONTENT MAY ONLY BE UNLOCKED ONE SINGLE TIME WITH A UNIQUE KEY. YOU MUST BE AT LEAST 13 TO CREATE A UBISOFT ACCOUNT WITHOUT PARENTAL CONSENT. UBISOFT MAY CANCEL ACCESS TO ONLINE FEATURES UPON A 30-DAY PRIOR NOTICE PUBLISHED AT http://www.splintercell.com/conviction/
The game’s been hitting the UK charts hard thanks to an excellent 360 version. You can buy it for £35 on Amazon, where the PC version costs £25.
Just saying.

That’s why I import all my games from the UK or buy used. €50 can almost be considered cheap for new game.

I played the 360 demo, didn’t grab me at all, not that I’d buy it with that DRM. The sooner Ubi give up on the PC and fuck off the better.

That DRM is definitely BS. I don’t get why they’re doing it to be honest, not everyone has a perfect internet connection. I do have quite a good internet connection, but I don’t like wasting my bandwidth on something that really doesn’t need it. I’ve got the 360 version of this game, it was very good fun, but it looks quite horrible in some places, which is why I was looking forward to a PC release. However, after seeing this ridiculously overkill DRM…I’m not so sure.
