Report: Square announces Extreme Edges label

According to this Examiner piece, Square’s announced an Extreme Edges label to categorize its western games.
The first three Extreme Edges titles to be released in Japan are Raven’s Singularity, IO’s Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days and Blur Racerz (Bizarre’s Blur to you and me).
Blur and Singularity are both Activision titles in the US and Europe.
There’s no detail there on whether or not games are going to be branded Extreme Edges in the west. We’ll ask.

That seems… counter-productive. They have a hard enough time selling Western games in Japan as it is. Labelling Squenix games to make “the ones you don’t really want” easily identifiable seems akin to taking them out to the barn with a double-barrelled shotgun and putting them out of their misery.

Depends how visible the ‘label’ is, I guess. It may be more of an internal thingy. The Examiner piece doesn’t actually state that the moniker will appear on the box.
I don’t think it’s all that objectionable as a marketing tactic though – “edge” = “edginess” = cool?
Incidentally, if anyone can remember the *full* name of the Final Fantasy XIII brand off the top of their head, I’ll buy them a metaphorical pint.

I wonder if Langdell will attempt to sue Square?
