Rumour – Ninja Theory working on Devil May Cry 5

dmc23b

According to a rumour in the latest issue of Game Informer, Ninja Theory, the developer of Heavenly Sword and Enslaved, is working on a fifth Devil May Cry.

The last title in the series, Devil May Cry 4, released for PS3, 360 and PC in 2007.

The Cambridge-based studio said recently it has just started work on a “secret project”.

Capcom’s said in the past it will keep any new IPs within Japan, suggesting well-known franchises could be farmed out to western companies.

Obviously, it’s a rumour: your handful of salt is needed.

After Bayonetta’s success (not necessarily commercial, but certainly in terms of imagination, creativeness and delivery), a fresh look on DMC could be the kick the series needs. Otherwise comparisons could end up not in its favor.

Whether Ninja Theory could actually pull it off, though, is another story. I do have faith in their abilities, but Heavenly Sword could be better…

ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGHHH!!!!!!!! BRING THIS SHIT DOWN! I SAY NOW! NOW MOTHERF**ERS!

I want NERO and DANTE COOP PLAY. Day one peach, day one.

The only thing that bothers me that this game is made by Ninja Theory. I’m afraid about that Japanese great stylish fighting.

DMC needs a bit of a reboot, and I can see these guys doing a good job of it. I still return to HS from time to time, it’s got a beautiful flow to the combat, which is quite unique even today.

Well a change from capcom to ninja throry is not one I would consider wise especially when they’ve only made HS which was not a great game or anything really =/

Although at the same time this series NEEDS a reboot, I got so apathetic towards this series that I didn’t pick up DMC 4 till about 18 months after it came out and I was just kinda underwhelmed =(

hhhhmmmm Not really liking this news at all to be honest, I think I might be in the minority in loving DMC for exactly what it is and I don’t really see why it needs a re-boot or a massive change or anything. Its DMC its slyish over the top action, aslong as that action is as polished as it always been then why demand change? Just play Gaiden or something instead.

Heavenly Sword was very very scrappy aswell, there was little precision to its combat and most of the time it just was not fun at all.

Whats with Capcom out sourcing all of their old IP’s?

It is a bit strange that they choose to keep control of Lost Planet 2, a game which was pretty much panned everywhere and farm out a beloved series with pretty high scores across the series (bar the second).

Wheres that PSP Resi aswell?

If Capcom believe NT is a good fit for a new DMC, then I’m willing to give them a chance. I’d like to see a new Devil May Cry, if it can impress again.

Great that means we can expect DMC 5 to not have a jump button. :(

Hindle, that probably means we can expect Dynasty May Cry as well..

actually this is surprising, I guess they want a DMC2 repeat.

I thought DMC4 was excellent (aside from a few camera issues), so I’m looking forward to another one. I just hope going with a western dev doesn’t dilute the unique Japanese feel of the series.

Same place. Apparently it was Sony Cambridge who had to finish Heavenly Sword because these guys were taking so long on it.
