u guys should stop comparing other games to cod mw2! it’s like comparing them to CS. u have to realize that it’s not necessarily the gameplay that is different but the crowd to which the game is aimed at. mw2 players r like CS players, they will always be stuck in time. *i know that because I live with 1 (CS player). because as far as I can see, what’s going on here is that DICE and Crytek r constantly innovating while IW recycles.

    CoD2 to CoD4 = innovating.

BFBC to BFBC2 = Buying a copy of CoD4/MW2, copying a load of stuff.

Whats funny is that at one point i said that BFBC2 would probably have some form of perk system, and was laughed at.

“the greatest product that’s going to come out this year.”

Does EA really want them saying that when its releasing alongside medal of honor, which I can bet EA is going to push as much as they can to steal the MW2 crowd?

@10 I’m sorry, but everything what did DICE with its Battlefield is going from Battlefield series.

and where is innovation in COD 2 and COD 4?

Of course, you never played Battlefield 1942 that was a full innovative game in everything. Vehicles, game design, multiplayer – everything what they achieved with this game is what we see in the multiplayer games now. That is a pinnacle of gaming.
Of course you never played Battlefield 2 and Battlefield 2142.

Geki, you are absolutely wrong. If you don’t know shit, don’t talk about it. Battlefield: Bad company series is attempt to bring its OWN old ideas to consoles. Or you don’t understand it? Everything what you see in Battlefield:BC is what they created from the start. Games, vehicles, classes.

I’ve played all of the BF games, and through BF2-BFBC theres utterly nothing new, its the same game over and over with only the setting changing. DICE only tried something new in BFBC2, and by “new” i mean they blantantly lifted ideas from CoD4/MW2.

I’m not saying DICE has NEVER innovated, i’m just saying that they stopped innovating 5 years ago after BF2.

Saying that DICE is “constantly innovating” is completely wrong. Now take off those rose-tinted glasses when it comes to DICE, PC gamers.

No, no you are both wrong and right. Shooters haven’t changed since they went 3D. Still the same old floating cameras. Only the visuals and sound got better.

    :P

    @Geki
Where i said that DICE innovated with Battlefield 2 and Battlefield 2142?

They just fixed balance with Battlefield 2 and they don’t need to make revolution of the multiplayer genre that they created.

and i ask you a question second time, WHAT MW innovated? It’s a Counter-strike rip off with emblems and achievements. Prove me that i’m wrong.

Then you agree with me. What i was arguing is what Endgame said; That DICE always innovates, and you agree with me that this isnt the case. All DICE have done in every single BF game up intill BFBC2 is just tweak the games abit.

With BFBC2 they clearly looked at what IW had done and copied, they took the BF formula then added CoD4. And honnestly, you’re just being a fanboy if you disagree. Or you’ve never played CoD4.

As to what IW brought to the genre? Well just look at all the new features in BFBC2 seeing as they’re all ‘inspired’ by CoD4.
-Perks: Nearly every game has these since IW put them in CoD4. IW truely forged what personalization in shooters has become today with this, so much so that even Bungie are taking the Halo series in a similar direction.
-Personalizing weapons: Add different types of scopes and attatements to your weapon. The way you went about actually unlocking the stuff was also new.
-One button press knife: Games had melee before, and they had knives. But IW combined the 2 and changed the way CQC was done in games.
-Regenerating health: IW didnt invent this, but they put it on the map. Ever since they introduced it in CoD2 its been a standard in FPS’.

All of these features were picked up by DICE because they were in CoD4. IW also added things like challenges and the like which DICE didnt pick up on, thats why i wont list them.

But in the end what is innovation? Its doing something new. DICE did that in the day with BF1942 but since then they only ever changed the formula to copy off what IW did in CoD4. Sorry but thats pretty weak innovation.

IW on the otherhand had a rather basic shooter with CoD2, in multiplayer it was like any other FPS; Select your kit (something DICE invented in BF1942) then get fragging. IW worked their game, added to it and came out with CoD4. They innovated and pushed the genre forward, they set new standards.

As i said; I’m not saying DICE has NEVER innovated, nor am i saying IW has innovated any more the FPS genre then them. But i am saying that Endgames comment about DICE always innovating with each game whilst IW dont is utterly untrue.

*Err mate, there were specialisations in Battlefield 2142 ^^.
IW perfected the formula of customisation in FPS(kinda), DICE messed around with it and then came back after everyone wanted it.
*COD4 didn’t put regenerating health on the map too many games have been doing it to say it was just them.
*COD4 was a distillation of fps mechanics people had been playing around with, they build upon it. Modern warfare 2, they couldn’t see any big innovations, so you got custo-kill streaks and akimbo weaponsm and a lil bit of co-op.
*DICE IS INNOVATIVE: Battlefield bad company 2 does have a level of innovation in the core gameplay mechanic, something modern warfare 2 did not, Destruction. Which was built upon from BFBC and will be continued to be built upon in further battlefield games namely the big one that the PC crowd want.
*Battlefield and Call of duty ARE DIFFERENT. VERY DIFFERENT. One is fast paced fps action around every corner. One is larger scale tactical shooter with vehicles and destruction. If they weren’t so different, people would have no reason to like one and not the other.

Not to totally disagree with Geki, I just want to try and clear some things up.
TLDR, Call of duty’s innovation was perfecting pre-existing mechanics
DICE’s innovation is bringing Battlefield staples to consoles whilst building upon the new destruction mechanic and adapting to what gamers are accustomed to.

ANYHOO. THIS IS ABOUT CRYSIS 2.

Which looks pretty dam good, they might need to focus on multiplayer more. I am hoping CRYTEK UK are up to it.
