3DS announcement “clashes” with DSi XL, says analyst

We now present an informative look at how to promote your brand new portable hardware revision.

Method #1: Attempt to end world hunger – Yes.

Method #2: Send out comically small press releases – Yes.

Method #3: Turn your console into yesterday’s news before it’s even out with a brand new, all-around better console – NO. Bad Nintendo. Bad. Don’t make us shake this can of nickels at you in a threatening manner.

Senior analyst with M2 Research Billy Pigeon – who is, sadly, not a family friendly mascot of any sort – concurs. Speaking with CNBC, he said:

“Apparently, the Japanese press was all over it and talked with suppliers there and Nintendo just wanted to get out ahead by breaking the news to prevent a leak. Does it clash with the DSi XL? Yes it does.”

“The XL is old news, however, in Japan – and Nintendo is a very Japan-centric organization. This is just the corporate parent in Japan maybe not acting in the best interest of Nintendo of America,” he explained.

He added, also, that the DSi XL and 3DS set the stage for Nintendo to slash prices on its older DS hardware, so that those of us who aren’t interested in 3D or – even more unlikely – don’t have the all-too-common combination of gorilla hands and legal blindness can join in on the fun.

Agreed, don’t have to be a MBA to recon that it was and odd (even dumb) move by Nintendo. There is were Apple excels as a commercial company, it works so well the with the hype.

Just take a leaf out of Mark Rein’s book, flatly deny it outright, criticise everyone who said it then laugh about it as some sort of silly joke. Then announce it 3 months later with a straight face.

A DS isn’t a GameBoy. It’s a DS. Also Nintendo have never really made a hardcore console. No company have. It’s the games that make the machine…

its a gameboy with with two touch screens to me. Call it what you want. As for the so called games make the console remake spare me the bullshit please. let me know when real games like GOW,GT5,UC2,or KZ2 come out for the wii regularly.

Upgrading your console graphically and adding next gen processing power is what I want to see Nintendo offer its hardcore crowd.

This kind of garbage won’t cut it

I still find it hard to believe that they ditched the Gameboy name. Worked out pretty well for them in the end, of course, but at the time? Madness!
