NVIDIA new Fermi graphics cards hitting in mid-April

Still, they are not Next Gen graphics cards.

I really want to see Next Gen graphics card. But that will happen when Next Gen Systems will come out so we still need to wait for that.

If it’s Avatar graphic levels you’re wanting, then you won’t be getting it on PS4/5/ or 6 for that matter.

Next Gen consoles are based on older PC GPU’s, just like the 360/PS3.

If you want the cutting edge now i.e. 60+ FPS, running at higher than 1080P resolutions…then buy a PC because it’s the only place you’re going to get it!

470 and 480 are just boosts for the graphic engines and i have great PC that is running high than 1080P.

I’m waiting for the Next Generation graphics cards, if you don’t know what this is, you should learn a little bit for a graphics card generation (Wikipedia). For now, graphic cards will come out and just boost the experience with better resolution, effects, SSAO, skin shading, parallax mapping, geometric detail, analytical anti-aliasing and other cool stuff… Thats it. Consoles can run all games multiplatform but just without these cool effects. Next Generation graphic cards will show whats impossible for current consoles (not just graphical effects) and what we will see in the next gen hardware PC and consoles.

Actually: “I don’t see a shit”. 3D Metro 2033 was just awesome. No artificial problems. Perfect 3D, maybe tesselation effect was something. But thats it.

Its more a PR for now. Maybe Crysis 2 or Doom 4 will show true Direct X 11 effects and visuals.

Listen, PC’s in terms of technology will always be ahead of consoles, fact. This won’t change.

So, when these next gen consoles arrive, it’s inevitable they’ll be based on older PC GPU architecture (just like the 360/PS3 was) than what the PC will have when such consoles get released.

In other words, when you buy your PS4/Xbox 720, the PC at such a time will already be ahead of them with superior tech.

The thing about consoles though, they only offer a baseline experience. Whereas on the PC the game is the best it can be.

@9 When the 360 launched it had a fully programmable shader pipeline about 8 months before ATI or Nvidia had one for the PC market. The 360′s hardware tesselator was also in there before PC cards had that feature.

Prior to DX11 the 360 was also the only system actually using the tesselator thanks to Nvidia being useless. Hardware tesselation had to be dropped from the DX10 spec because Nvidia couldn’t get theirs to work. The 360 is still the only system that utilises eDRAM to perform extremely efficient anti-aliasing.

Let’s not forget the N64 had hardware anti-aliasing over a year before PCs and the Dreamcast had deferred rendering with hidden surface removal a good year before PowerVR had a PC variant (and this feature has only recently be approximated by other card manufacturers).

Don’t get me wrong, the PC will always be able to pull in front, it’s the nature of the beast. But it’s not true to say the PC is always ahead in terms of performance and technology.

As for Fermi, it’s pile of crap. Nvidia need to pull their finger out and start engineering for the future. ATI are eating them alive at the moment on price vs performance.

ok here is the hard choice I will need to upgrade my pc soon. Do I wait until Intel releases their graphics card Larrabee or do I buy the new Fermi?

I kinda want project offset so I am going to wait or atleast wait for any news on project offset.

I though the consumer level Larrabee chips had been canned by Intel?

Seriously. Buy the 5870. It’s cheaper than the 480, not far off in terms of performance and with driver development I can only say that the bridge will close. Plus ATI might drop the price of the 5870 because Fermi is now out.

CUDA and all that physics crap aren’t worth the extra £/$ for the 480.

But it’s true to say that when next gen consoles arrive their PC counter part will be ahead in terms of tech when such consoles hit the market.

Let’s not forget, when the 360 hit the market the GPU within that system was based on the R500 and therefore very similar to an ATI Radeon X1900. In other words, it was based on old PC GPU architecture and PC’s at the time of the 360′s release were already on to the next level.

As for Fermi, true, it’s modest in terms of running DX9/10 games when contrasted next to AMD’s 5000 series, but in terms of DX11 features such as tessellation, it eats those current 5000 series cards.

You only need to look at AnandTech’s test results on DX11 games (and DX11 engines such as Unigine Heaven) to see that the 480 comes out top. A clean sweep.

Therefore, these cards (480/470) are built with the future in mind (with Nvidia banking heavily on tessellation) and until there is enough DX11 games out there, it’s foolish, not to mention premature, to say such cards are “crap”.

I want to get the next cutting edge game coming to the pc. Project offset is going to be crysis on steroids, the game devs have unlimited budget and hardware tech from Intel. Nothing gets cooler than that.

@20 God Of War 3 is a hack and slash game that is absolutely stunning and what they showed with Project Offset. Its mediocre at best. I saw that already in previous games.

Graphics are not better. Oh yeah, they are using skin shading and parallax mapping. WOW.
So guess what. Santa Monica Studio used its talent to make the same effects. Facial animation is NOTHING Special.

for now, Project Offset is not a definition to buy a new graphic card. More like a stupid PR.

Project Offset makes 50 people and thats a fact. Its a new company and Offset videos not making a big fuzz on the gamers.

2) Sony spent only 22 million on Killzone 2 and they never said that it will look like Crysis. Its a benchmark for console FPS and for my IMHO: Killzone 2 looks nothing special. But games like Uncharted 2 and God Of War 3 looks stunning and amazing if you want to compare to any PC or console game.
Games like Crysis, Battlefield: Bad Company 2, METRO 2033 are just technology masterpieces, but in terms of design they lack a lot and thats where games like Uncharted 2 and God Of War 3 wins the prize.

3) And stop fucking wasting your time with stupid youtube prooflinks that prove nothing. There are millions of opinion (Fanboy) videos like: Why PC games rules and consoles suck and Why PC sucks and consoles rules in terms of games.

PC gaming is a good stuff, but lets face it. If you are a TRUE-HARDCORE-GAMER and don’t have game console of your choice, then you just suck. Say what you want, but thats true (but if you don’t like console games that consoles trying to offer then thats fine.)

for example, i’m in love with Metal Gear Solid, Infamous, Demon Souls, Uncharted series and Final Fantasy games and will definitely buy Sony consoles because of that. for example i could not play Battlefield:BC2 at the launch (bought first day) because DICE had problems with server overload while console versions were fine.
and there is a console version of Battlefield:BC2 and even Battlefield:BC 1 is ONLY on consoles
