L.A. Noire script is sitting at 22K pages, says Bondi

Team Bondi has revealed that the script for L.A. Noire is currently sitting at 22,000 pages.
That’s about as thick as a Stephen King book, there.
Speaking in the latest issue of EDGE, studio co-founder, Brendan McNamara, revealed the girth of the script.
“The script’s up to 22,000 pages,” he stated. “That’s two full years of a TV series and probably 12 feature films. It goes a lot of places!”
Game’s slated for the fourth fiscal quarter, which is the three months ending October 31, 2010, according to the latest financial release from Take-Two.
During the call to investors, it was revealed that one of the core titles slated for that time frame – L.A. Noire, Mafia II, Max Payne 3 and Sid Meier’s Civilization V – may get pushed into 2011.
Thanks, ConnectedConsoles.

That’s a lot of pages. 21,999 more than I’d want to write for a game.

Does anyone remember how many pages Heavy Rain’s script was. That should give us a good perspective of what to expect I think.

It’s really hard to compare game scripts since lots of games have dialogue that isn’t scripted to cutscenes, like Halo’s combat dialogue for example: Halo has over 30k lines of combat dialogue and the cinematic script itself is maybe a few hundred pages long.

Quite bluntly, that’s fucking ridiculous.

The number is wrong.
It’s around 2000 pages (Game Informer’s March cover story).

Yeah, it’s going to be Max Payne 3 or LA Noire that’s going to be pushed into 2011 I reckon.
Mafia II has been postponed way too many times and I’m guessing Firaxis is doing a pretty fine job with Civ V.
Both LA Noire and Max Payne 3 are pretty much a mystery at this point.

I don’t believe that. If there is 22000 pages of script, then this game will be not huge… I just can’t say what this will be.
Heavy Rain had 2000 pages.

Yes, it is wrong. They say it’s equal to 12 films, and a film of two hours would be about 120 pages (1 page = 1 minut aprox). 120 pages x 12 films = 1440 pages. So it’s absolutely impossible to compare 22000 pages to just 12 films. Except if they are very small pages, of course.
22000 would be like 180 2-hour movies.

I will compare with TV-Series too, so it will be even more clear with this and the last post of mine, the number is incorrect.
Lost. Aprox 22 chapters each season. 42 minutes each chapter. This is the usual for most series (House, Heroes, Desperate Housewives… and nearly whatever it’s not a sit-com).
2 seasons x 22 chapters x 42 pages (1/min) = 1848 pages
So 22000 would be like… Falcon Crest (joking). Would be like a 23-24 seasons TV-Series.
If there’s some number wrong then, it has to be the 22000, or that, or casually the two comparassions are wrong the same way, so probabilities tell me it has to be the 22000=2000 or 2200. Some 2 or 0 is wrong.

In fact theevilaires, it’s not Stephany Nunnely fail, it appears like that in the link used by her ( http://connectedconsoles.com/ps3-LA-Noire-Script-Is-Up-To-22000-Pages-Long.cfm ), even comparassions were already in the original. I would tell connectedconsoles they have a mistake there, but I won’t sign up just for that.

It says 22,000 in the EDGE magazine article where it first appeared.

Well it says its longer then a stephen king novel and his longest book the under dome is 1072 pages long. So as Komond-Deckard said its most likely either 2,200 or 2000 words long.
Looks like it was an edge fail, if not that a hella lot of script :S

Last game to go down the “our script is really really HUGE!” publicity route: Haze.
LA Noire will be a lot better than that, though.
(btw, why the ‘e’ on Noir? Is LA supposed to be feminine in French grammar, or something?)
