Sakaguchi: GoW III opening is too “long”

gowIII

Mistwalker boss Hironobu Sakaguchi has said he thinks God of War III is a “good game”.

But there’s one thing about Kratos’s latest the Final Fantasy creator doesn’t like.

A long opening movie,” tweeted Sakaguchi. “It’s nicely done, but you don’t need this. It’s movie-like, but you don’t need long openings in games.”

That said, he still thinks the actioner’s great, as said in a further tweet.

Sorry, my English is poor. lol Now I’m playing GoW3 and write some comments. This is [a] good game.”

God of War III released last week in the US and UK. It releases this week in Japan.

Thanks, Andriasang.

It’s probably still only half the length of a regular battle in Blue Dragon ;) .

He’ll follow with an apology, blaming translation difficulties and cultural differences, you’ll see.

This guy is clearly an idiot. The opening isn’t that long, about 5 mins, and Final Fantasy’s are somewhat on the CGI heavy side.

Sakaguchi-san probably started his first play-through on normal. Then had some trouble on the first level (Gaia), decided to scale-down the difficultly to easy. But you can’t change the difficulty in the middle of a play-through, so he started a new game on easy. Then the long opening cutscene is played, but he wants to skip the cutscene since he has already seen it. Unfortunately, you can’t skip cutscenes in this game. So he tweeted, complaining about the opening cutscene while it is being played.

Kind of rich, a JP game dev complaining about a long cutscene.

Maybe he was hoping for a few hundred random battles to pad it out a bit?
