Imagine closes Total PC Gaming

tpcg

UK publisher Imagine’s closed Total PC Gaming magazine.

The mag was launched in 2007. Russell Barnes has been editor throughout.

A letter was sent to subs on March 20 saying issue 31 would be the last.

Why? Imagine’s yet to make an official statement on the matter. “Money” is a likely factor, however.

Those now not publishing a PC gaming magazine in Bournemouth: we salute you.

This doesn’t surprise me. Core PC gaming is hardly thriving right now anyway.

Wasn’t that great-a-mag anyway as I remember.

Sad for the job losses, though.

“Core PC gaming is hardly thriving” do you have any proof for your stetment or are you spewing garbage out like must of the gaming Industry that is full of liars…….

Online and the internet is putting all media out of business….many news papers as well as comics are going under due the fact people have the internet.

I use youtube and other types links for information…I like video because it gives faces to the speaker giving the the facts. An video is alot harder to disclaim. Where as person can say he never wrote the paper….it’s creditability thing.

stetment…gmaing…liers

Computer says no.

And yes, actually. the NPD results from 2009 showed that retail PC revenue was down over $150 million (23%) on the previous year. It also states that actual copies sold was down too.

Now, while the above is only relevant to RETAIL, that would explain why magazines aren’t selling so well, as people are less interested in physical products and now get their information online.

Also, EA (among others) have stated that they actually LOSE money making PC titles – “Piracy’s a big issue on the PC. I can’t turn a blind eye to the fact that it’s very difficult for us… and we lose money making a game. At some point, I have an obligation not to bring out products that lose money.”

http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2009/07/20/develop-09-is-digital-distribution-the-pc-saviour/

how about you try agin…..by the way i would like to say alot of the US media is curpupt these days and bais

NDP sure tracks world wide sales of pc games…… you kidding me right…they have hard time tracking pc gaming dd sales.

one more thing it’s funny that Ndp needs to combined all 3 consoles to compare it to the pc …….it’s funny that the gaming media needs to lie about pc gaming dying every year so consoles can even compete with pc gaming.

yea alot of people sure wants pc gaming dead these days what a joke.

by the way USA numbers are different from world numbers that Ndp does not track world wide number or DD…..go to india and china tell me are they using a pc or a console?

how about Russia,seeder and Germany?

By the with mircosoft and sony losing billions on consoles I would be suprised if they pay Ndp to lie for them…we all know how greed works these days.

http://www.wired.com/gamelife/2009/05/e3-predictions/

Oh and lets not forget retail how well pc games and pc gamers are treated…..consoles companies need to buy up all the space so pc games get pushed to the back…because they know people would buy pc games over consoles.

http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/16/1c-games-retail-is-forcing-pc-games-out/

then there is gamestop… and the used game market.why would gamestop want to support pc games when you can’t really trade in a used pc game these days… have you went into a EB games or gamestop their employees trash pc gaming any way they can.

http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/54333

still consoles have a hard time keeping up with pc gaming what a joke.

I thought that would be the case.

I recieved my sub copy last week and it was sparse to say the least. I thought to myself OK time to cancel the sub which I have had since issue 2.

Farewell Total PC gaming. Started strong but lost focus when it added crappy books and DVD’s.

I almost found myself agreeing slightly with blackdreamhunk… which is a peculiar experience.

Mentioning Russia, India and China was a bit of a mistake, Russia is rife with piracy, similar with metropolitan India and China is a difficult market for consoles due to national regulatory bodies and the availability of content. Fair enough on Germany though…

You did miss one market though, South Korea. A staggeringly large PC gaming market and PC gaming even receives its own prime-time TV show out there, consoles don’t even have that in Europe.

But going back to the point of the article, the UK PC gaming market is well looked after by the internet so the press business was always going to struggle hard to make a profit. It’s a real shame for the people concerned, but all forms of press are taking a battering financially not just PC Gaming titles.

those are just some example all of Asia Europe plays on the pc….please don’t get me started… the media is junk these days. frankly I don’t trust media when watch the news I try to get it from different sores. When you do that you can propaganda.

As I am now one with blackdreamhunk, I thought I’d throw a link in here as well…

http://www.businessweek.com/the_thread/techbeat/archives/2010/03/study_developer.html

if the iPad is even 5% as successful as the iPhone, the PC Gaming market – albeit in a different form – could have a sales peak round the corner.

Can we go through one day without a PC gaming story?
Just to give us a break from BDH?

I am unsure, is ‘what a joke’ BDH’s catchphrase?
It’s the only part of the posts that makes sense, and it’s repeated ad nauseum.

Sigh
Once again BDH, you forget, that I own a PC.
I play WoW and Monkey Island on it, as well as Football Manager.
What else do you want me to do?
I don’t wax lyrical about anything, I don’t come on here saying consoles are the best and PCs suck.
Whereas you do, but the other way around.

You are a very big pot calling a kettle black.

That’s right BDH, there’s a conspiracy against pc gamers. Why don’t we get this movement together so we’re ready for the impending GAME APOCALYPSE. By the way what the hell is a “patcher”. Something like a tailor ?
