FFXIII sells 1 million units in US

Square Enix has announced that Final Fantasy XIII has sold 1 million units in the US since its release two weeks ago.

No exact figure – or breakdown ratio for which console sold more copies – was given, but expect the March NPD figures to give the necessary details next month.

On Friday, the firm said FFXIII had become the biggest-selling title in the series so far in the UK, having already become the fastest-selling title in Britain this year.

The game’s gone on to ship 5 million units worldwide, with 3 million in the US and UK alone.

Thanks, D’Toid.

Guess the brand’s still got the pulling power. It’ll be interesting to see the platform split.

Hum, dosnt seem like much for such a long going, prestigious series that is FF. How did previous FF games do in their first US 2 weeks? About the same?

I can only find figures for FFXII. That did about 570k in the first week and took about four weeks to reach a million. So if anything sales seem to be up compared to last time.

Apparently its a good figure for the series then.

Most number FF games release on a single format don’t they? FF13 is on two formats so, given the wider audience and the fairly even split in sales between the two platforms, it seems to be performing as one would expect, not radically exceeding expectations though.

Sales are up because it’s out on two consoles. How great the actual game is has no bearing on the sales numbers of a franchised game in its first week or month, if anything it the game(s) before dictate the sales.

I bought the xb360 FF bundle in the US.

Turned the game back in on the spot. I rented it and didn’t enjoy it at all. In doing the transaction the guy at the counter said that they have had a small wave of returns for it.

I have no idea if he was BSing me or not, but I did see two used copies on the shelf.

You bought the Xbox360 Final Fantasy bundle and rented the game. Did they somehow forget to include it in said bundle?

Gave the bundled game back straight away he said. Why even buy the pack in the first place though?

Especially how much he criticizes the series, he goes and buys the FF bundle.
