Sega to reveal Natal project at E3, more in development

Sega boss Mike Hayes has revealed the company will show off a Project Natal “prototype” at E3 this coming June, with more in the pipeline.

Speaking in an interview with CVG, the exec also said to expect stuff for its launch later this year.

“We asked our Japanese studio to create something for [Natal] which we’ll show off at E3. They had a brilliant prototype up and running within six weeks. I mean a genuinely entertaining prototype you could just play.”

Hayes also praised Sony and Microsoft for its sharpness in sending the company development kits for Natal and Move.

“As publishers, what we want is a very close early relationship on these devices. And all credit to Microsoft and Sony, they’ve given us early development kits,” he said.

“So if they’re giving us something that’s obviously rough and ready, we can’t then criticise it and say: ‘It’s not perfection.’

“You can see the improvements in revised versions of what’s come out. It’s our point of view that most if not all of what’s been promised on both is going to be delivered.”

Move is due in fall, while Natal is released in time for Christmas.

I can’t say I’ve got much enthusiasm for Natal (or Move for that matter) but doesn’t anyone find it slightly worrying that Sega are going to show a prototype off at E3 when the the system itself is launching a few months later yet they had the dev kits really early…?

What with this and Natal not being in some of the EA sports stuff it looks like MS have got their timings a bit wrong for dev time and/or there’s gonna be bugger all of any great shakes when it releases.

We shall see…
