Guerrilla “haven’t hit the limit” with PS3

killzone226

Killzone 2 was at one point, before Uncharted 2 and God of War III came running in, PS3′s tour de force as far as graphics went.

But developer Guerrilla Games insists it isn’t done with the pushing the console to its limits.

Speaking in the latest issue of Edge, the studio’s managing head Herman Hulst said the developer can still improve.

“We’re satisfied that we demonstrated the potential of the hardware,” he said.

“But we realise that further optimisations are always possible and that we haven’t hit the limit yet.”

Since the release of Killzone 2 last February, Guerrilla’s released three map packs for the title. But more recently, rampant speculation has been ripe with rumours it’s currently developing Killzone 3 for a release next April.

Let’s hope its good, eh?

Thanks, TSA.

Even now when I chuck in the game I’m amazed at the graphics, particle effects, shading, light etc. I cant ****ing wait for KZ3.

Have they found even more murky shades of grey and brown to incorporate into the next one?

Once the devs untap the full power of the PS3 it will produce game of an equal level to the 360.

Of course you are not done. Making absolutely strange engine that uses strange lightning effects and stupid palete that is stylish in 7th gen + using 60% of processing PPE was kinda lame.

Look at RAGE ID Software engine and they don’t use processing elements too much, damn… Look at CryEngine 3.
Killzone 2 was nothing special with graphics. Absolutely nothing special at all compare to any multiplatform game.
Uncharted 2 and God Of War 3 looks much better by a mile.

i thought the environments and lighting was very good in KZ2 but to me the character models in game were weak. I think there is too much hype regarding some PS3 games, I’m probably wrong in some peoples eyes but the lighting effects & shadows are done in a clever way to hide certain details and polygons.

This place will never turn into eurogamer. Because I won’t let idiots put people like Mike and Psychotext up on a pedestal like they are kings. This site isn’t 99% xbots like eurogamer is.

@6 thats the thing. Shadows and lightning are done to hide bad details, polygons and poor environment.

Games like GOW 3 and Uncharted 2 pushed the limits, but this has nothing to do with awesome engine and graphics.

@7 seriously, shut up, i don’t have xbox 360 and never will have (until they make a decent slim version). I judge the game not because of platform, i judge it like a normal person that don’t care about your favourite fanboy wars.
Killzone 2 pushed nothing with its engine and it looks mediocre at best and i explained why. Graphically nothing special.

I still don’t understand what is so great about KZ2. I mean, it’s not a bad game, but it’s nothing special to me. I still hate the controls.

The gameplay might be nothing stellar, but there’s no denying that visually its a master-piece, especially considering the limited power of the machine it is running on.

@ Robo_1
I absolutely agree with you. Sad to see this site go down the drain … :(

But to some extent the fault also lies with all these fanboy-bait articles (better: notes) that get published here.

turn your LCD brightness settings up and you can see they werent hiding anything. Denying that the game is visually stunning, including chracter models (besides the female but thats more of a artist flaw) is nonsense. And i dont even wanna get into “But Crysis This, But RAGE that” 1) Crysis is a PC game. PC games always have been better graphically than consoles HOWEVER you pay the price to get full graphics out of the new release you want to play. Crysis on a $300-$400 desktop looks like garbage and wont run at 40fps. 2) RAGE isnt out yet so you have no idea what the final build is gonna look like, perform like, and play like on either consoles so that refrence holds no grounds.

Mike O: You keep mentioning that the PS3 is a weak console. Where do you get your info? I would like to read or watch whatever it is you are getting your sources from. It might be a very interesting watch/read. Im being sincere by the way. And please, dont reference and Bar tests because thos have been completely discredited as they dont make BAR tests for consoles. So far most of what i have read and seen from tech savy game developers is that they said that the Cell processor and blu-ray drive equals extended possibilities. and yes yes, PCs now have Core i7 and graphics cards that make PS3 pee its pants, but again just the core i7 processor alone is $600+
