Reggie: No one would want Move when they have Wii

NoA president Reggie Fils-Aime has said there’s no point getting PlayStation Move if you have a Wii.
Speaking with Industry Gamers, he said:
“So I’m a consumer and I’m having a great experience with my Wii. And we know that’s the case – we look at the software that’s being purchased. Consumers love the Wii. What’s going to motivate them to spend minimally $300 for a new [PS3] system, plus minimally $100 for the Move motion bundle?
“So [as a consumer] now I’m into this for $400 and I still have to spend money on software. What’s going to motivate me to do that?”
That’s despite comments made last week by Fils-Aime, where he said he was “flattered” over what Sony was doing with the motion controller.
Move is due out in fall.

Frod I can’t be bothered to read your bullshit after your first picture link. Obviously you are too young and probably started gaming on a xbox system before you could realize true greatest that was the PS1 and PS2 controller designs that became the “INDUSTRY LEAD CONTROLLER”

Hmm. I’m pretty sure that Sony have released more shooters than Microsoft in this generation. So that doesn’t hold water either.
I don’t really think anyone is denying that the 360 d-pad sucks, but the point is that it’s only used in such a tiny minority of games that it almost doesn’t matter – which makes the positioning of the left analogue on the DS3 all the more baffling.

and that’s an ad hominem argument.

Just one final point, I’m fairly the design of the analogue triggers is more to do with ergonomics, i.e. comfort and ease of use, than trying to look like a gun trigger.
It’s also worth noting that one of the Playstation magazines gave away concave triggers with their magazine once (Gioteck Real triggers I think?). Interesting that no-one has thought to sell convex trigger attachments for the 360 pad however.

I guess if you have a PS3, it could be a cool little novelty controller in case any of the entertaining Wii games make the jump.
It just seems to me like it would be easier to buy a Wii and get the actual games that a controller like that was tailored for in the first place. I could see why Nintendo would be threatened by an HD console stealing their controller though, aside from queasy family games, that’s just about their biggest weakness.
Either way, I’m not gonna be dancing and prancing in front of my TV any time soon.
That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.

@TEA
Shadowrun was a great game – it was let down by lack of game modes/map for a full price game. Controls and balance wise it was a great game though.
What makes the 360 controller great for shooters is nothing to do with buttons, it’s the sticks. Concave tops and perfect resistance.

Oh how I wish online multiplayer was cross platform. Please if Sony and M$ are reading this let one game become online cross platform play so I can wipe the floor with the people who think they have the better edge with that 360 pad.

You can get an adaptor to use a wired 360 controller on a PS3.

Interesting that it’s the 360 controller on the PS3 and not the other way around

360 triggers are awesome, DS3 has a decent d-pad though.
they’re both okay overall, it’s a matter of preference.

Cross Battle Adaptor to allow wired 360 controllers to work on a PS3 … link
XConverter 360 to allow wire PS2 controllers to work on a 360
… link
Lack of PS3 support is probably more related to the lack of a wired PS3 controller.

IMO, people who will buy this might not have a Wii, or use their PS3 more and will get this as well.
Its hardly like buying a second console.
No one is under the illusion (well, maybe Sony) that this is the ‘new’ Wii, its just Sony’s own offering in this market, an accessory if you will.
It won’t sell like the Wii did, but im sure it will do very well for Sony, and will be a nice extra to have, same can be said for Natal with Microsoft.
I think people, as usual, are blowing this thing totally out of proportion.

Why does anyone need to defend any hardware ever against the acusations of anyone on the internet?
None of this matters. In the purest sense this whole thread is useless.
Enjoy yourselves, buy what you enjoy, sell what you don’t. You will not get a discount from Sony or Microsoft dependent on what you post online.

DC pads were cheap and plastic-y with a little LCD screen in the middle for no apparant reason whatsoever.
What was it supposed to be, some sort of tamagotchi??
Wow, SEGA really did make the worst pads in the business.
The worst pad ever HAS to be the Master System controller. Over time, the right and down direction seemed to merge into one single unusable mess.

If you take out the LCD you are dangerously close to an original Xbox pad

Both 360 and PS3 gamepads are stellar. They both are really great controllers and it just depends on your own opinion on comfort. I can easily pick up my xbox360 controller and play with it without one complaint. I can easily pick up my DS3 and play with it without a single compaint.
I am more comfortable playing with the PS3 controller though. Its a matter of opinion.
As far as Move goes. If people would look into Move seriously, they will notice the complete advantage it has over the Wii remote. Clearly the Move setup is technologically better than the Wii….but in a casual market, simplicity and word of mouth seems to rule.

“Wow, SEGA really did make the worst pads in the business.”
Please tell me this is a joke?
The DC pad may have been a little plasticy, but its triggers were very much a precursor to the design of the Xbox controller.
The Saturn D-Pad was straight up the best d-pad of any controller that’s ever been made. It was incredibly precise and fluid you actually *could* play fighting games with it, something that most other controllers sucked at.
Also, that “shitty” controller you linked to was the first major analogue controller in mainstream gaming (if not the first analogue stick ever), well before the Dual Shock was released. It may have looked silly, but it felt *great* in your hands.
Not to mention that the Mega Drive controller with its groves and curves was far more ergonomic than that brick that was the SNES controller.
