PS3 named the heaviest console ever released

tippingthescales

Famitsu has declared that the original PS3 is the heaviest console ever released on the market.

The first model, which launched in November 2006, weighed a little over 11 pounds, a record that was previously held by the original Xbox which weighed 8.6 pound when released in 2001.

In comparison, PS3 Slim weighs 7.05 pounds, and Xbox 360 tips the scales at 7.9 pounds.

The lightest console ever released was Game Boy Micro in 2005, which weighed only 2.82 ounces.

So now you have some useless figures and information to store in your head should you ever get into a trivia bout with your friends down the pub.

Thanks, 1UP.

I believe it also uses the most power as well.

I love my chunky monkey.

I wonder how heavy the NEO GEO AES Gold is?

Maybe if i get bored I will weigh it. Feel a tad less then the xbox. Also the 3DO wasn’t lite either.

I’m surprised, frankly. The 360 weighs a fucking ton.

It’s the gaming equivalent of the Hughes H-4 Hercules.

No, can’t say I’ve ever picked one up. I’ve been much more careful since that ‘incident’ with the local constabulary.

Does anyone here even have a gameboy micro, Reggie looked stupid as fuck when he announced that at E3 some years back. Do they even still make them???

@13 – Fat PS3 five kilograms. Original Xbox 3.90kg, Slim 3.19kg, 360 -3.58kg, Game Boy Micro 80 grams.

I swear, the US just has to do everything the opposite of everyone else just to be a brat sometimes.

I’m sure the 360 weighs the same if not more if you include the power brick. The PS3′s is internal so that might make a big difference.

You could quite easily club whales to death with the 360 power brick. If you could pick it up without putting your back out.

The PS3 has a huge copper heatsink that gives it its weight.

It’s probably the reason why the YLOD incidents are much lower than RROD despite being subject to the same fundamental issue of lead-free solder, as the ‘sink smooths the temperature changes better.

“I’m surprised, frankly. The 360 weighs a fucking ton.”

They probably did not include the external power-brick when weighing the 360.

Edit: Ooops, too late. The argument came up already.

According to CNET, power wise, the ‘fat’ PS3 used the most while gaming, supping a hefty 206w. The Xbox 360 uses 187w, but the slim only uses 96w while playing.

So its the eco-friendly gaming machine. Well, apart from the Wii maybe :)

the PS3′s internal power supply makes a huge difference.I have took both of mine out of my PS3′s and its cast around a huge metal steel cage. holding the PS3 up without it is effortless.

@17 – I bought my boyfriend an original xbox for Christmas one year, and stood in line holding it with one arm at Best Buy for 30 minutes.

I could not use my arm for a week after that – and I can toss bales of hay out of a truck with no issues. Damn thing. All for nothing – 360 came about like a year later.

Wrong, probably equivalent to an Antonov An-225 wich can carry a Space shuttle, useless piece of shit ever, like the poopy shit 3.

The hercules has the record for the biggest wingspan in any aircraft, though.
