NPD February 2010: BioShock 2 rockets to first, Heavy Rain starts off strong

Does the GDC news rush have your head spinning? Then take a load off with February’s NPDs, which came out today. So, how’d your favorite games fair?

Unsurprisingly, BioShock 2 made a drill-brandishing beeline straight to first place, while Mass Effect 2, Dante’s Inferno, and Heavy Rain all managed to keep apace in the top ten. Long-legged favorites New Super Mario Bros. Wii and Modern Warfare 2, meanwhile, took second and third.

How many days was Heavy Rain on sale for in this period? Seems weird that it would be outsold by Dante’s Inferno, I was sure I’d read somewhere that it had shifted half a million copies in the US in the first week.

Guess you can’t believe what fly-by-night sites pull out of nowhere about sales. Glad to see Dante’s Inferno defied the haters out there.

Heavy Rain came out on the 23rd so that should have included the weekend too. Perhaps 500k was worldwide?

Interesting to see Dantes do more on the PS3 than 360.

It had the extra free content on PS3 in the US, that probably helped out.

Yeah but there is quite a big alternative title just around the corner on the PS3 too. Dantes was very, very GoW.

True, true. I expect GoW to knock Dante’s sales into a ‘cocked hat’, though. Perhaps it was just the appetizer before the main course? :-D
