Molyneux confirms Twitter support for Fable III

Peter Molyneux’s confirmed during his GDC seminar tonight that Fable III will have Twitter support.
The Lionhead boss confirmed the news earlier, saying how important it was to acquire followers in the game in a similar vein to the service.
“I Twitter now and, you know, I’ve got followers on Twitter,” he said, referring to his new found love for the service.
“That’s an interesting mechanic, and we integrate that into the Fable experience.”
He didn’t quite say it would integrate into the service.
Molyneux earlier detailed some of the usage for the game featuring Natal, as well as confirming John Cleese would feature as the Butler.
New shots just went live as well.
Fable III’s due out later this year.
Thanks, Joystiq.

To anyone I follow on twitter: Don’t enable a feature like that. It’s just annoying.

Twitter.
Somewhere between the TWAT and the SHITTER.
Twitter.

I’d imagine he would use it as a treasure hunt style things.
Perhaps players could leave clues to where items are in the game… or advertise their position in order to join up for co-op?

You mean, ignoring the fact that this *is* a in-game feature? It’s a feature… in the game. That makes it an in-game feature.

Just because he loves twitter, doesn’t mean it needs to be in the game. In fact, it’s just plain dumb.

There’s millions of people who like the feature in other existing games, and will be perfectly happy to use this. Myself included.

Yeah, sadly….you’re probably right.
I just think unless it’s for some professional news source or industry update information….millions of people informing millions of people what they’re doing on a day to day basis, let alone a videogame update, is useless information and a waste of time.

People like to know what their friends are doing in their lives. It’s a crazy idea, I know.
Now, if you’re one of those people who add 10,000 different people… you’re just an idiot or an attention whore.

Meh, this is barely newsworthy. Maybe if the feature was unheard of till now but its not.

I’m not sure he’s saying Fable III features Twitter integration so much as a Twitter-like feature.
“That’s an interesting mechanic, and we integrate that into the Fable experience.”
He’s not saying he’s integrating Twitter itself necessarily, just the idea of having followers.

I set up a separate twitter account for my 360 achievement tweets, and this seems like a good use for it as well. Then if people I know are playing the game we can trade gamer twitter accounts, and I don’t bother anyone else with them.
Hardly thinking out of the box, but it still seems to be something that’s lost on a lot of Internet warriors.

Unless you can actual tweet your game to do something, what’s the point?

To share what you’re doing with friends.

Seems to me that it will probably feel a bit tacked on. Like it might just report on specific quests/acheivements you’ve completed.
I think an attempt to integrate it into the game in a meaningful way would end up seeming a bit anachronistic.
