Even though have Sony have said this before im inclined to agree this time. God of War 3 will sell quite a lot of ps3s.

@5, it’s totally sound. Demand creates mindsharre, mindshare and demand, both take more than a ‘couple of weeks’ to subside.

If people want God of War III, they will get itand if anything the fact that they can’t get a PS3, will only make them want it more – and talk about wanting it.

Really? There’s a shortage? I haven’t had any problems finding them in any of the Future Shops or Best Buys here in Toronto. Hell, I bought mine about a month ago.

It’s not uncommon to use this sort of thing as an excuse, but they really have had supply issues for a while now (I was talking about it back in January).

That doesn’t stop the PR spin aspect being just that… but they’ve certainly had something going on with their supply chain.

Yeah but they apparently won’t outsell the 360, which is the only figure most people (particularly fanboys) focus on each month (everyone ignores the billions of Wiis Nintendo consistently shift). So by saying they have stock shortages they can side-step any suggestions that the 360 is back on top and claim they’ve maintaining the momentum of the Slim’s launch. Then once they’ve got God of War III et al on the shelves, the hardware sales should sort themselves out.

Seems to me like they might be trying to seed some excuses for the February NPDs. After the huge upsurge in sales last year it would look bad for Sony if PS3 sales dropped back behind the 360 again. While Pachter has predicted an increase in hardware sales, the actual numbers are still lower than the 360′s.

From March onwards there are quite a few AAA titles coming out for the PS3, so hardware should bounce right back after that. I think Sony just want to cover the dip at the start of the year to maintain the positive association the PS3 Slim has created for the brand.

Still seems a bit mad to be understocked for your biggest releases. I don’t really buy the whole ‘restrict the channel in order to generate hype’ thing, it’s not sound business.

The rumour I’ve heard is that they’ve got a further cost reduced PS3 slim in the pipeline, and are keen for those to be the ones flying out of shops this spring, as they lose very little on each model sold.

I love you Sony but horrible timing seriously your the only console on big demand at the moment and your the only one not delivering. How can you not have planned to have plenty of consoles ready for GOW3 and FF13 that’s just stupid!
