Three new expansions announced for FFXI

FFXI

Square Enix announced over the weekend plans to release three new Final Fantasy XI expansions across the year.

The three inclusions, announced at the MMO’s fan-event in Japan, are Vision of Abyssea, Scars of Abyssea, and Heroes of Abyssea. All of them will require previous expansions Rise Of The Zilart and Wings of the Goddess to access.

They’ll each cost $9.99; Vision of Abyssea will go on sale first, in a simultaneous release in the US, Europe and Japan this summer.

Square also said at the same fan event that the closed beta for Final Fantasy XIV will begin next week, March 11.

Thanks, BN.

Christ, you’d think they’d be winding FFXI down considering XIV is due at the end of the year. I guess you have to hand it to them for how long and how hard they’ve supported it.

No square never said that, a couple of fansites said that, and it was denied by square.

I don’t think Square will be shutting off the servers for this any time soon. They’ll probably keep it running for as long as the subscriptions make them a profit. Even when XIV launches, I’d be willing to bet players won’t want to cancel their XI subscription and lose their account and items, even if they rarely play.
