Steam UI gets overhaul, public beta goes live

Steamnewlistothing

Tired of staring at the same old grey-with-a-hint-of-grey Steam menus? Well then, Valve knows just what you're looking for:

Some new grey-with-a-hint-of-grey Steam menus!

The public beta for Steam's new digs is now available through an opt-in process, which is detailed here.

"We've overhauled the Steam user interface to enhance the way you already buy and play games, adding more info about the things that matter — getting games, playing them with friends, and staying current in the gaming world," said Valve.

Upgrades include a more robust friends list, a central news feed, customizable categories for your game library, and a bunch of other odds and ends. Click through the link for the full list of changes, which - as tempting as we're sure it might have been for Valve's corporate VP of patch note-writing - doesn't simply say "everything."
