Bungie refuses to confirm or deny if new IP will appear on PS3

Bungie’s not confirming if the new IP the studio has in development is coming to PS3 – but when speaking to CVG, it didn’t deny it neither.

The developer’s community head Brian Jarrard told the site the studio’s future was currently “undefined”.

“I think our whole future’s kind of undefined right now and it’s definitely not something we’re going to be comfortable getting into too much detail about,” said Jarrard.

“We’ve had another team internally [other than those making Halo: Reach] for quite a while now – they’ve been working on the genesis of what will become our next big thing.

“It’s a little premature to get into specifics, but you know, I think we have a really good mix of old blood and new blood in the studio,” he further added.

Bungie confirmed at the Tokyo Game Show in 2008 that it was working on a new IP, although not a hint has been dropped on it since.

However, the developer did say in July last year it was “close” to striking a deal with an unknown publisher for the project.

Bethesda’s Ashley Cheng said a couple of days later that any of the top-tier could publish it, but thought it was unlikely the title would be published by SCE.

For now, the studio’s final Halo project, Halo: Reach, is due out this fall. A multiplayer Beta kicks off on May 3.

Well, I thought that was ousted when Halo Reach came about.

Either way we know Microsoft hasn’t got it, becuase there wouldn’t be any doubt. They are probabaly shopping it round publishers at the moment.

I think it is another exclusive game for Xbox 360 just a new IP from Bungie.

Bungie is an independent developer and their new project, as I understand it, doesn’t currently have a publisher. If a major publisher will be investing in their next project, expect the game to be multiplatform. I don’t think anything can be confirmed or denied until the project has a publisher. Microsoft will possibly have the opportunity of first refusal since they still own a minority stake in Bungie.

If Microsoft don’t publish whatever it is then I’ll eat a whole box of hats.

If MS really do have first refusal rights then i doubt they’re going to turn it down.

I very much doubt Bungie will develop anything for the PS3, their tools will be geared up for 360 and besides.. it took them about 6 years to re-engineer their new engine for ‘Reach’ porting that to PS3 would be a nightmare (probably).

It’d be nice to see tho’ :D

The Halo games are/were good, but what moved them in millions was the marketing that MS threw behind them. Bungie is walking on eggshels right now, they better watch their step.

Heh, I can’t believe it’s unanimous that it will be probably be Microsoft published.

I read that that was what Reach was, the first game they did outside of Microsoft, and instead it was wrangled to be another Halo, so they can be totally independant after it.

I seriously doubt it will be Microsoft published, and if it isn’t, there’s not much chnace of exclusivity

From Bungie themselves:
“KIRKLAND, Wash. — Oct. 5, 2007 — Bungie and Microsoft Corp. today announced a plan for Bungie Studios, the developers of Microsoft’s “Halo” franchise, to become a privately held independent company, Bungie, LLC, in which Microsoft will hold a minority equity interest. As part of this transaction, Bungie and Microsoft have forged a deep and long-term development and publishing relationship focused on the continued success of the “Halo” franchise. It is also the intent of both parties to expand their partnership to include new IP created and owned by Bungie.”

So they’re not totally independent because Microsoft still have a minority stake. I’ll be amazed if there aren’t contract clauses in place to give Microsoft first-refusal on at least their first new IP. Reach doesn’t count because Microsoft still wholly own the Halo franchise.
