Ubisoft: Red Steel 2 success “absolutely crucial” for IP

redsteel22

Ubisoft’s said in a interview that if Red Steel 2 isn’t a big success it’s kaput for the series.

Speaking to Play.tm, creative director for the title Jason Vandenberghe said it’s “absolutely crucial” the game does very well if there’s any chance of Red Steel 3.

“It was clear from the beginning we had to succeed. It was absolutely crucial,” he said. “It was obvious that, if Red Steel 2 came out and it was not well-received by the fans, we were done. There would be no Red Steel 3.”

The first title was a so-so-recieved title, coming in at a Meta 63.

The WiiMotion Plus exclusive is out on March 23 in the US and March 26 in the UK for Wii.

TBH I think the first one only achieved sucess because it was the only ‘mature’ Wii launch game…

Considering the negative vibes Nintendo Power is giving for the game, I would say this is the death call. NP states,
“…Controls not quite perfect.”
“…when you swing your wiimote, it is ALMOST instantly matched onscreen”
“Wii Sports Resort more accurately mirror on screen movements while Red Steel 2 does not”
” Wii Sports Resort your sword is visible at all times, while in Red Steel 2, you only see it when you swing and block.”
“In Wii Sports Resort you can swing at all different angles, high, low, different angles and heights, In Red Steel 2 it doesn’t matter where you swing your sword.”
” Wii Sports Resort is closer to the kind of sword control we had in mind..”

It goes on and on…Basically Wii Sports Resort Sword fight better then Red Steel 2…Really then this is a HUGE pASS for me.

They also make it sound like, you enter an arena fight bad guys, kill bad guys, pick up loot, go to gate, open, next round arena, kill bad guys, pick up loot, go to gate, open gate, next round arena and repeat..

When Nintendo Power, who usually gives much higher scores to Nintendo Wii games then other sites, starts poo pooing everything about Red Steel 2, and Saying the sword fighting is Better in Wii Sports Resort..that is not only a bad sign, that is a pack your bags and run for the nearest exit sign!!!!

Remember I warned you..so no crying when you are bored to tears with the game!!!

Oh you can find this report in the March 2010 issue number 252

It’s got no chance. There’s a bunch of good games around at the moment, and coming soon, and recently, third party games (or “mature” games) are not selling well on the Wii. I’m not hearing the hype for this game, and I had actually completely forgotten it even existed until I read this news article.

I played the first one.. I liked it… but I, like most people I know, will never buy any more wii games. (or even bother with the bandwidth to download them). The Wii is Wiik :)

Ubi: polish it up for HD and let it come to ps3 to get some money back.
