Rumour: Call of Duty casting call mentions “SOG in Vietnam,” details characters

Friday, 19th February 2010 11:17 GMT By Patrick Garratt

An LA casting call for Call of Duty-related “voice over/motion capture” for an Activision “video game” has described character Frank Barnes as being part of an elite Vietnam unit, the Military Assistance Command, Vietnam – Studies and Observations Group.

SOG was responsible for covert operations in Vietnam, and was active from 1964-1972.

The news appears to confirm the game for a Vietnam setting. This follows heavy tips that Treyarch’s next Call of Duty game, slated to release towards the end of this year, would take place during the Vietnam War.

The call is for motion capture and VO work for what looks like four major characters from the game, namely Barnes, “a fiercely patriotic veteran of WW2… A solid leader, possessed with an excellent ability to assess and respond to any situation quickly and decisively”; Joseph Lewis, a “very physically fit” black man in his 20s; Jason Hudson, a white man in his 30s with “over 15 years of military experience, making him an excellent tactician and mission co-coordinator”; and Kristina Ivanova. a Russian-born martial arts expert and CIA operative who’s “calm to the point of being cold and detached”.

The details come from a US casting site.

Activision has yet to say anything about the Treyarch title other than it’s coming this year and it’s not expected to be bigger than Modern Warfare 2.

The game’s setting, plot and characters have yet to be confirmed. We’ve asked Activision for comment.

    Sounds like a job for… The A-Team.

Before they got locked up for a crime they didn’t commit.

    December the 3rd:

“My friend told my the other day he heard it was going to be in Vietnam, i should ask him his source”

i rule! i might actually text him now and ask him how he found out about this, although he probably wont member coz it was so long ago, maybe my friends from the future?

Take a peek at the same article, it says Vietnam right there. We knew Vietnam was next before MW2 was out anyway, just not with such heavy evidence such as this.

Add music from the sixties and I’m all over it!

It wasn’t the best game ever, but if they add a similar soundtrack from Conflict: Vietnam, that’d be an instant win.

I’m pumped for this. If it’s done well it could be epic. There’s a lot of scope for innovation as regards jungle combat, and the weapons, atmosphere, etc, really could add up to win.

The use of the name “Barnes” is either an unfortunate coincidence or a very, very deliberate ploy to hook into Platoon.

I do demand Willem Defoe in this game though…

they’ll have to do a napalm kill steak reward, although having large areas of the map on fire could be tricky to get right, unless its flash burn and a scorch make

did far cry 2 have fire in the multiplayer?

I’m very happy because it appears Treyarch is heavily focusing on the character development of your squad members, something that we’ve all probably found lacking in previous Call of Duty titles.

I’m sure this will ‘play’ very nicely – the CoD engine is as tight as they come – but I refuse to get excited until I play it, because if the level design and overall quality is anything like World at War, I’ll be borrowing, not buying.

Oh yeah this would be fantastic! Not! OK so Trayarch are an American based Developer, but the CoD series is not a US Game, it is sold all over the world! What interest would the European market have in a two bit war that the USA lost!
If this is the next CoD then you can count me out and a lot of others from the EU as well – and lets be fair more people in Europe brought W@W and MW2 than in the States.

No – because only Yanks who dont mind buying a game based on a war they lost will buy it
