Disney Interactive boss calls PlayStation Motion Controler “Gem” at DICE

Arc 2

Disney Interactive boss Steve Wadsworth has apparently called the PlayStation Motion Controller – wait for it – PlayStation Gem.

The exec mentioned it alongside Project Natal when motion controls were brought up as part of his speech at DICE in Las Vegas last night.

As of last month, the controller’s been called Arc in most places after VG247 was told that would be the name for the PS3 motion wand.

SCEA exec Patrick Seybold had to come out and say it was just a “code name” after THQ president Brian Farrell let slip the name “Arc” a couple of times during the company’s Q3 FY2010 financials a couple of weeks ago.

But it’s not the first time the name “Gem” has been mentioned by someone: EA CEO John Riccitello said it at a media conference just before Christmas last year.

Arc/Gem/PlayStation Motion Controller will release in fall after a delay from spring. It will make an appearence at GDC next month in San Francisco as part of a development session at the event.

Thanks, Game Informer.

Does anyone really care what it’s called?

Eh.. Arc > Gem

But then again the only people who give a sh!t about “motion control” are little kids and women, so ‘Gem’ would make sense.

Gem would defo make more sense for the casual crowd. Arc sounds too core for what I would assume Sony want to achieve with the device… and come on, it’s not *that* bad.
