Report - Final Fantasy XI to close this year to make room for FFXIV

FFXI

According to a report on GameCrep, Square Enix is to shut down the online servers for Final Fantasy XI.

A human resources employee at the firm put up a personal blog which said the MMO, which has been up since 2002, will shut down this year to make room for Final Fantasy XIV.

That blog post has since been taken down.

When FFXI launched, it first appeared on PC before heading to Xbox 360 in 2005.

We'll take this up with Square and hopefully get confirmation of something.
