Kitase: No plans to bring main canon Final Fantasy games outside home consoles

Final Fantasy XV on PSP and DS? Not a chance, according to Final Fantasy XIII producer Yoshinori Kitase.

The exec told Kotaku he sees the main series keeping to the home consoles for now and not doing a Dragon Quest by going to DS.

"In terms of Final Fantasy in general, the teams are really aiming for movie quality graphics and really dramatic storylines," he said.

"For now, at least, consoles like the Xbox 360 and PS3 are the best place for this kind of cinematic experience to take place. We don't feel that it needs to transition necessarily to a handheld platform."

After the release of the eighth game on PS2, Dragon Quest IX appeared in Japan last summer on DS with the tenth game in the canon series appearing on Wii.

In the same interview, FFXIII director Motomu Toriyama revealed the series will never become an FPS. Uh-huh.

Final Fantasy XIII lands in the west on March 9 for PS3 and 360.
