Famitsu gives Heavy Rain 37/40 ahead of today’s review deluge

heavyrain2

The latest Famitsu has given Heavy Rain a 37/40.

The individual scores for the Quantic Dream thriller were 10, 10, 9, 8.

The magazine praised it for a “fabulous story” that “keeps you wanting to continue playing”.

Prepare yourself for a reviews influx for the game: the embargo lifts at 5pm GMT today.

Heavy Rain’s out on February 23 in the US and February 26 in the UK for PS3.

Thanks, mojo.

The demo completely sold me on this, I’m sure the reviews will be interesting to read but I’m going to be queueing up to get my copy on the 26th.

I wonder what all the “It’s a glorified QTE-fest” whiners are going to say when nothing but rave reviews start coming in for this game.

These tend to be the very same people who whine when the games they like they “crap” scores, mind you. You know, those “crap” scores like 7 and 8.

I have this on pre-order, special edition no less. :D

I reckon an 89% metacritic average one month after release.

What will make the difference is if the reviewer themselves have kids. I challenge any Dad with kid’s not to get well and truly sucked into it. The game is ripping at a Dad’s heart-strings – I’m a Dad and I really like the idea of a game playing emotionally. It may not well be a better “game” than Mass Effect 2 or Uncharted 2 but as a piece of entertainment, I am more excited about playing this than any other game that may well be a better game.

Horses for courses – but with any review, I’d like to know if they did or did not have kids before they posted their score. Would be interesting to see…

@2 i’m glad this sort of game is coming out and getting very good reviews, i’m a bit cheesed off at the amount of first person shooters that are arriving at a alarming rate this generation, so its nice to see something like this in the spotlight for a change.

Wonder if we’ll see an Edge [7] or [8]?

together with godow3 (which is of course a completly different game) this is my so far most anticipated game of 2010. so far. Or lets say, nothings is more present on my radar for now.
Guess it will, as a game, feel like no other.
so looking forward to this.

TBH Michael, he’s got a point.

I’m actually curious to see what Edge will give it.

That said, it has to be an eight at least.

I was mighty impressred with the demo. The only time there actually was a QTE was actually good, so consider me pumped for this.

Not that I already was. :D

EDGE get far too much crap simply for giving a critical opinion that isn’t always shared by the gamers in general.

They get criticised for stuff like 360 fanboyism, simply because 360 games *they* don’t like were well scored… even going so far as to ignore the 10/10 that LittleBigPlanet received.

EDGE will give it what they think it deserves. I think their 6 out of 10 for Dragon Age was utter madness, but I don’t think the magazine deliberately goes out of its way to score things badly for the sake of controversy. Ever.

True though, Heavy Rain is a tricky one to judge. I’m definitely *curious* as to what they’ll give it, that’s for sure.

Edge loves Bayonetta – Perfect score. Now let’s see what they score Heavy Rain. How does it compare to Bayonetta?

Review scores suck… be your own person, make up your own mind! Even if it scored 5 across the board, I’d still buy this game. The story fascinates me. Can’t be said about many games. I’m just looking forward to a game that isn’t just a protracted fetch quest with repetitive gameplay mechanics to stretch the game out. Darksiders is quite fun but it’s starting to become a bit of a grind. But I have probably got a shorter than average attention span…
