Pachter: PS3 hardware sales massively up YoY for January

Wedbush Morgan’s Michael Pachter has predicted PS3 hardware sales will be up by a massive figure year-on-year in this Thursday’s January NPD results.
Speaking in his NPD preview, the analyst said sales of the console will be up 62 percent from January 2009, with estimates at 330k sold during the month, but will narrowly miss out on beating Xbox 360.
The Microsoft machine’s predicted to have sold 340,000, up 10 percent year-on-year.
Wii is still expected to be the main home console winner with sales of 555K, despite a 19 percent loss at the same period last year.
Pachter also predicted the big software winners will be Mass Effect 2, Darksiders, Modern Warfare 2, New Super Mario. Bros, Wii Fit Plus and Wii Sports Resort.
The official figures are released on Thursday.

That’ll be the ‘failure’ Darksiders ‘winning big’ then, will it?

Did Pachter say Darksiders would fail? I know another analyst said that it didnt meet THQ’s expectations but i dont recall Pachter saying anything.

I have been so lost in MW2′s online that I haven’t been able to catch up on the New Year’s releases. I have got to play Bioshock 2, then Bayonetta, and I have Heavy Rain paid-off. Hopefully I can get all those in and then some before Alan Wake makes it to the shelves.
In regards to the PS3 selling more though, I certainly have a lot more friends that have PS3′s right now than did a year ago (myself included). Looks like the playing field is starting to even out.

No, it was the other guy who said Darksiders was a failure. I don’t remember Pachter saying anything about it at all, but I bet he thought it! Yes!

“Pachter also predicted the big software winners will be Mass Effect 2, Darksiders, Modern Warfare 2, New Super Mario. Bros, Wii Fit Plus and Wii Sports Resort.”
Seriously, this guy gets PAID to say this stuff?
“Which games do you think will be big winners Michael?”
“Well, it’s a tough call, but probably the war game that’s already sold 12 million copies – that might do well… erm, the sequel to the hugely succesful sci-fi franchise that sold 2 million in its opening weekend; I think that has a chance of success… erm… and those first party Wii titles that Nintendo have been selling trolley loads of for about a decade.
I know, I know, they are some risky predictions. I like living on the Edge (TM)”.

Pachter didn’t say it, no.
It was somebody else. I think he was in the EA financial call last night.
