Two reviews (one minus a score!) isn’t a roundup.

Seems as if the scores are nowhere near as high as the first game (which was the highest rated game of 06 if i remember correctly)

Is it wrong of me to be put off buying the game with these scores?
I wasn’t too excited for it in the first place and was only going to buy it as I started to see glowing reviews… however, now, I’m not too sure.

So, another case of sequelitus, where an alternate developer makes a slightly less good follow up to a great game. Ala:
- IW-Treyarch (CoD)
- Bioware-Obsidian (KOTOR; NwN)
…sigh

There are 2 ways to look at this:
-The game just isnt as good as the first one.
-Bioshock was a stellar game in 06 amongst alot of rather bland releases. Since then there have been ALOT of good games. Standards have simply raised and Bioshock 2 is atleast as good as the first one.

@NGCes26294BIV
Not understood the whole ‘only Treyarch CoD games are poor’ thing. They’ve all been successively worse than the previous one, aside from CoD 2.

These are the scores the first game should have got. Everyone got so caught up in the hype for that game.

Nowgamer give 9.2 on 360, 9.1 on PC and 8.8 on PS3. And the PS3 review definitely isn’t the best just because it’s mine…

“Everyone got so caught up in the hype for that game.”
Yet they reviewed it much the same when the PS3 version rolled around… long after the “hype” had subsided.

Can anyone even quantify the difference 0.4 points makes? I find that bemusing? Three scores? What makes the XBOX 360 version 0.1 points better than the PC version?
How bloody stupid. NowGamer should have just given all three versions a 9 and done with it. At least we’d all be able to understand their bonkers scale.

I still loved the twist towards the end of the first game. I doubt that any sequel could hold up to that.

As I explain every time, and as you’d see if you bothered to look: Nowgamer reviews are done by different people, they are different opinions held by said different people. It is not one monolith of opinion.
We all reviewed it completely independently of each other, as we all work on different mags. It’s telling that the general consensus is around the same mark though.

@ianos – No need to get fucking snarky, mate. Perhaps the fact you keep needing to explain suggests you’re not making it very clear at all? Hmm?
All the same, thanks for clearing that up. That now makes sense.

“Yet they reviewed it much the same when the PS3 version rolled around… long after the “hype” had subsided.”
Well they had to, didn’t they? As long as it’s a technically sound port, it’s going to score similarly. Never understood the fuss over the game.

“Never understood the fuss over the game.”
…and that’s why it’s overhyped, for you. Personally, I’ve never understood why people can’t understand that others have different likes, dislikes and opinions to them.
That you didn’t rate it, doesn’t make it overhyped.

I rated it, it’s a decent shooter. Just not “best game ever” material. It falls apart after the reveal, they run out of ideas. Plus the combat is horrible and unsatisfying.
People can have different opinions to me, it just means they’re wrong.

I think you both mean “overrated”.
“People can have different opinions to me, it just means they’re wrong.

I often say that to people, but then they spit in my face and laugh. I’ll show them, the fools! *shakes fist*

You’re right. In the context of review scores, to accuse a website/magazine of overhyping something is effectively the same as saying they overrated it. My bad.

The review scores seem fine to me, I’ll certainly be picking this up. I thought the original was awesomes, so ‘slightly less awesomes than the previous one’ is still pretty awesomes. Or something.

Only in gaming could a string of 8s and 9s being considered “bad scores.” Dear lord.
