You know… when I first read that I assumed you were saying that the score was still being inflated, and they should stop now that it’s multi-platform.

Not a fan JRPG’s I find them so archaic compared too today’s European and American developed rpg’s. It is questionable that they scored it so low though considering Sony has been the home of FF for years.

What version was it you reviewed, Andy?

I assume it was the Japanese version?

Japanese version, reviewed by a British ex-pat now living in Tokyo, who speaks the language fluently.

I dread to think what this one’s like if it ends up scoring around the 70% mark at review. The previous two scored 9s and 10s in the press whereas I would’ve scored them both at around the 7 mark.

I don’t think it’s necessarily to do with it being multi-platform now, but I do think FF has generally been given a ‘free ride’ at review in the past just because it’s FF and the only JRPG that the average Joe on the street would have actually heard of. There were at least half a dozen JRPGs last generation which pissed on FF from a great height but didn’t do half as well at review.

How stupid can it be to give a game like this a 7??!!! I have been playing FFXIII since the half of january, and I refuse to believe that the only thing some so-called reviewers can see through it is a “barely sufficient game”. Why do all this people is still complaining after 12 years that the jrpg has changed since FFVII and that We should all be missing the good times gone?! What is happening with FFXIII reviews is a shame! I can understand that this game is WAY different from its predecessors, (I played and finished ALL the Final Fantasy except the XI), but why can’t it be evaluated for its own artistic value, and not for the legacy it should bring over the shoulders?

well, thats what you get when you grab the most antecipated J-RPG this generation, and turn it a more linear game than a shoot’emupfest like uncharted 2.

I’m interested to see what they’ve marked this game down on. The other released reviews have complimented this game on it’s technical accomplishments and fantastic storyline.

I’m guessing fantastic visuals and an interesting story do not a great game make. At the end of the day it’s a game, not a movie, and has to be judged as such.
