Rumour – Harmonix working on something outside of Rock Band

If recent royalty requests are any indication, Harmonix could be working on something outside of Rock Band.

The developer has recent put in requests to use several songs for a project, which seem to be more R&B then rock.

The songs are:

  • M.O.P. – “Ante Up”
  • Cascada – “Evacuate the Dance Floor” [*shiver* - JC]
  • Trey Songs – “Say Aah”
  • Timbaland feat. D.O.E. – “The Way I Are”

Amplitude 2, anyone?

So far, what we do know is Harmonix is working on Green Day: Rock Band, which was thought to be in the hands of another developer last week.

That wasn’t the case, as the developer told us at the time.

What would also be better than the current situation is if they made one bit of software, which enabled you to create or download different characters and play any song from the store. At the moment it’s like having a different version of iTunes for Rock, one for rap, one for pop and so on.

That’s why I not only stopped buying the games, I stopped buying songs for the games I had. If it worked like buying songs off iTunes, then it’d be great.

Also if they locked out the character selection for certain bands, then you wouldn’t have to have exclusive titles. If you want to play as Sgt Pepper John Lennon, then you can only play Beatles songs but a character you create can play any. That sort of thing.

Do all that and I might start buying again.
