Fable III’s almost “at the final edit”, says Molyneux

Peter Molyneux has revealed in an interview that Fable III is “almost at its final edit”.
Good news, there.
Speaking with Develop, the gaming legend revealed all sorts of other stuff, like his favorite music album (Dark Side of the Moon), his hobbies, the fact that he admires Valve, loved Half-Life 2, and all sorts of other things you would ask a chap on your first date.
It’s a short read, but an interesting one, nonetheless.
Fable III will be shown at X10 next week, so expect more on it then.
Molyneux will also be giving a lecture at GDC this year, chatting about intuitive design.

I’m baffled by this.
Fable 1 and 2 both took years and years to make.. and ultimately they turned out well despite not truly living up to Molyneux’s gab.
So am I justified it approaching this with caution. Unless Molyneux design/work ethic has dramatically altered I can see this being a let down.
It strikes me as a big name title rushed out in time to sell (read ‘Bundle’) with Natal to sucker in the hardcore.

It’ll probably be using the same engine. Thats always a time saver.

Most companies that don’t licence other peoples engines tend to just have one engine they use over and over. The hurdle was building a 360 engine, over the last year and a half they could have just been endlessly updating and refining it.
I loved Fable 2 anyway, so am excited for this muchly.

I’d be fairly happy with the Fable 2 engine. It wasn’t spectacular, but it certainly worked.

2 miracles just happened:
-BDH actually made a post that was in context with whats being asked.
-The link actually shows that Molyneux at one point said something reasonable and completely true for once.

lol @ Gekidami
(and yeah, for what it’s worth I agree. It’s one of the more sensible things Molyneux has said, even if a certain poster here isn’t capable of understanding what it means.)

bio-ware is much better rpg company.
bio-ware respects their fanbasetoo.
I can’t say that for Peter Molyneux. Maybe that is why his company will never ever be as good as bio-ware.
if he wants to be like vavle he has a long ways to go!!!

Fable 2 took 4 years to make and it was ok not the best game but good. Im concerned if hes making a sequel in half the time.

Fable 2 was a blast… but far too ‘gamey’ to adhere to the organic nature Molyneux promoted.

Two years after the last game’s release is “too long”?
You do realise they were probably already working on this before Fable 2 even came out… right? Half the effort with most games is in making the proprietary engine. It’s easy to make a full game in 2 years if an engine is already in place.

Then two years is plenty of time.

Id like Microsoft to make more ips instead of relying on the last gens ones you know Halo, Forza, Fable. I read somewhere they dont have any people who understand innovation, was said from a former Microsoft man.

That’s somewhat surprising, much sooner than I expected. That said… it’s Peter. It might still be 18 months off.

Exactly Blerk, 2 years for a Lionhead game seems unbelieveable.

how the fucking so? There isn’t no pior or after lionhead, just a company that is slowing down it’s pace of releases trying to ship products a little more polished than before now that they have deeper pockets to spend time and resources.
Lionhead is a fairly large studio that normally handles 2 projects at the same time and has various minor pet-projects to experiment inovative game design. They shipped games with a year from each other and they’ve been 3 years from releasing anything (the movies -> fable II). Having 2 years between Fable II/III is surprising because… what, really?
What’s surprising is Lionhead having two projects on-going simultaneously that are announced and not in the backstage, they’ve must have upped the workforce down there , not surprising alas Fable 2 is probably the most successful 1st party RPG this generation.
unlike shitty phony 1st party bombas

Well, what he’s said isn’t particularly clear. People seem to be taking it as, “the game’s almost done!” whereas he could well be saying that they’ve almost nailed down which features will make the cut and which won’t, the actual implementation of said features being far from complete.
