Sonic the Hedgehog 4 announced for PS3, 360, Wii

Sega’s just revealed Sonic the Hedgehog 4 for PS3, 360 and Wii.

This was the title previously known as Project Needlemouse.

It’ll be digitally released in episodes, with the first part due this summer, and is the first true sequel in the series in over 15 years.

It’s a 2D game with 3D graphics.

Despite it being Sonic and what’s happened with the series recently, it’s official: we. are. pumped.

Its a digital only game then. Well i guess in that case the lame return to ’2D’ is excusable.

episodes? how peculiar, so you get 15 minutes worth of game every 3 months….still, uber pumped

haven’t seen the trailer yet, still “loading” wouldn’t a level creator be perfect for this!

i dont see 3d at all only parallax scrolling, this looks authentic 2d – all the better i suppose.

I just wish they’d dump 3D altogether. Vanillaware’s games (Muramasa, Odin Sphere, etc) and the handheld Sonics are ample evidence that 2D art is alive and kicking.

I’d rather it be Sonic 4 and 2D than
Sonic Adventure 3: Tennis Battle, Rush Kart Racing, Mean Bean Fucking Extreme Adventure

i had a hunt for some fan made hd 2d concept art (someone must of done some, right) and i came across a forum, where some fans are recreating sonic 2 in hd…..i would’ve posted something about it, but it was all very amateurish and, and…

ARRRGH… ok, just finally got on my home comp to watch the trailer.

BLEGH!

It looked fucking horrible…

Why have they refused to make Sonic look as though his feet are spinning when he runs (like Sonic 3)??!
It looks slow and cheap, as if Sonic 3D had been a side scroller…

I get the impression that Sonic’s legs *will* spin. The bit where he’s jumping on Badnik’s clearly isn’t gameplay, and he’s clearly not moving at full stop in the bare three seconds of actual gameplay we get to see.

This is only meant to be a teaser. Lets wait for a proper gameplay video to see how this looks.
