PS3 software sales jump to 47 million units in Q3 FY09
Sony’s announced a rise in PS3 software sales to 47.6 million units in Q3 FY09.
The figure’s up 6.8 million units YoY from 40.8 million at the same period in 2008, a gain of 16.7 percent.
PSP software figures are down for the quarter between October and December, showing sales of 15 million compared to 15.5 million in Q3 FY08.
PS2, unlike PS3, saw a big drop in games sales, with over 11.2 million software units moved compared to 29.7 million units at the same point in 2008.

Looks like PS2 users are starting to take the leap to PS3, I reckon that this could be the year of PS3. Could it overtake 360 this year?
Doesnt matter to me I have both, but still it will be fun watching the fanboys battle it out.

If you look at the number of PS2s sold and the number that haven’t made the leap to PS3 for one reason or another, then there is quite a deficit. If just a few more percent of those PS2 owners convert this year then it will be very close indeed. I love a good race me

Of course, the PS2 owners could choose any of the available platforms, there’s no guarantee that they’ll choose a PS3 over a Wii, say. The ones who are holding out are obviously the ones that don’t play many games, so the Wii should be an ideal match for them.

All my friends who are settling on in life with a girlfriend are getting Wiis cause their girls will play with them. So often I see their girl friends update their Facebook saying things like, Lvl 6 of Mario is so hard, glad to have my boy friend around to beat it etc…. its sad, once great gamers have fallen to the vice of poon

I recall a rather gloat filled study done by Nintendo that showed most of the PS2 owners who have upgraded so far have gone to the Wii.
