Square Enix CV confirms FFXIV for 360

Tuesday, 2nd February 2010 21:14 GMT By Johnny Cullen

A LinkedIn CV from a Square Enix employee has finally confirmed what’s been obvious for a while: Final Fantasy XIV is coming to Xbox 360.

The profile of Yuuki Akama shows the MMO will be appearing on the platform alongside releases on PC and PlayStation 3.

It says:

Final Fantasy XIV” for PC, PS3, Xbox360″

It also mentions she is working on Final Fantasy Agito XIII and The Third Birthday for PSP.

The writing’s been on the wall for a long time for the MMO.

Last year in Cologne, FFXIV director Hiromichi Tanaka told VG247 at Gamescom that discussions with Microsoft to bring the title to 360 were being held, but issues with how Xbox Live is handled were upholding talks.

However, so far, Square’s only confirmed it for PC and PS3 per the announcement at Sony’s E3 press conference.

Tanaka also mentioned in our interview with him last year, that the words “launch timing” were cut out of the annnouncement of the game by SCEA boss Jack Tretton.

It’s due out sometime this year. No exact date’s been announced yet.

Thanks, Siliconera.

Whew, now we can all rest at ease because we know something we already knew the second Jack Trenton said “exclusively to PS3″ =)

Square Enix with this just showed big ass to Sony.

So Sony at last E3 just announced a game that is Multiplatform and Jack Tretton words were just cut.

And Sony can’t do something about it. Because FFXIII Versus is still exclusive to PS3 and they really don’t want to mess up with exclusivity to it and other exclusives for the PSP or partnership that is important to Sony.

So basically Square enix just screwed with Sony. I can’t understand this. If one company say: Its an exclusive to PS3 and PC, then other company make for Square Enix for FREE a presentation in its own E3 show and announce FFXIV… Then after five minutes: Woop di doop Sony, so-o-o-o-orry. Five minutes ago we talked with Microsoft and it will be multiplatform now so we are so sorry that you announced our game in your debut but its coming to 360.

Er, Jack said when it launches you’ll only be able to play it on PS3, so unless it launches on 360 as the same day as the PS3, Sony haven’t been shown any “big ass”.

    Whatever the hell that means.

Actually Tretton said that on the games launch the only console it’ll be on is PS3, he never said blantantly that the game was a PS3 exclusive. Square on their side has never really denied a 360 verison, they just said that MS’s LIVE policies were slowing things down but otherwise they’d do it as soon as that was cleared up.

As for this and what Tretton said, i dont see where in the girls CV it says that all versions will release at the same time.

Exactly Tretten DIDN’T say it was a PS3 exclusive Bleak, he said you’ll only be able to play it on PS3 when it launches.

To be fair to him, Jack chose his words very carefully when he announced it.

“And PlayStation 3 will be the only console you’ll be able to play Final Fantasy XIV on, when it launches in 2010.”

Does this really ‘confirm’ it? Could be a typo, we’ve seen it more often than not.

It probably is being made for 360, or atleast there are solid plans to port it over in the future and she stuck it on her CV for the reason. Square have pretty much confirmed that they want it on 360 already.

Johnny, but whats the point of this announcement?

I understand for example Microsoft announcement of Metal Gear Solid: Rising that is a multiplatform and its coming to 360. But with this, i just have no idea.

Maybe SCE wants more preorders, but thats just lame. They just used its own show to say: Hey guys, “PlayStation 3 will be the only console you’ll be able to play Final Fantasy XIV on, when it launches in 2010″ after for 100% you can play it on Xbox 360.

They should spent this time for Demons Soul… Or Eye Pet…

  12. Gekidami

I dont quite understand what you’re trying to say.

    #12 5 years ago
  13. Razor

MS did the same with the MW2 packs.

    “Coming to Xbox Live first”

What was the point of that announcement?

  14. Psychotext

I thought this was always going to be going to the 360? Was just a matter of contract arrangement wasn’t it? (i.e. How much of the subscription payments each party gets)

  15. Gekidami

From what i remember MS were also abit dishonnest about Metal Gear Solid: Rising. They didnt announce right there that it was an exclusive per se, but earlier in the show before Kojima announced it they said that ‘from that point on, every game shown was a 360 exclusive’.

    @2 meltdown?
as i said before “back to your cell”

we already knew this will eventualy come to the 360.There was no indication that it was exclusive on the ps3 not like Versus XIII which is tagged “For Playstation 3 ONLY Worldwide” to avoid confusions as with FFXIII which they changed “For Playstation 3 ONLY” to “For Playstation 3 ONLY in Japan” now if they wanna change “for Playstation 3 ONLY worldwide”with Versus they still can release it to other platforms…in Mars :P
As for XIV maybe Tretton knew what he was saying and it will be firstly released on Ps3…or it’s another SE trick they will launch it first in Japan only on ps3 and then in other territories to ps3, 360 and pc(along with Japan)

  17. Erthazus

@Razor, microsoft had point with MW2, but here is no point when Sony had so much exclusives that they could show at E3 2009

for example: Eye pet or Demons soul that are 100% exclusives to PS3

@Gekidami, yes, from that point there are only exclusives. But MGS: Rising was just a surprise.

Anyone who thought this wasn’t eventually coming to the 360 were fooling themselves. There is nothing dishonest about this, it is just the buisness. The only thing exclusive anymore is 1st and 2nd party titles. SE didn’t betray Sony any more than they betrayed MS when they released the “exclusive” title Star Ocean 4 on the PS3.

And on the side; Eye Pet? Seriously? Differen’t strokes for different folks I guess but I don’t see how anyone can get into a Monchichi simulator.

uh hem.. i’ll take the PC version please.

The only thing standing between FF14 and the 360 is businessmen. So, it’s far from certain :P

We’ll see if this ever happens… Ms are notorious for MMO support on live

Seemed to work out for the last FF MMO onlineatron.

  23. NiceFellow

This doesn’t prove it will hit 360 to be honest, only that SE would like it to and are progressing hoping it will.

But if they don’t resolve the license/charging issues then that would prevent it launching even if the code is ready for the platform.

I think we’re all missing a very important point here.

Which is, of course, who gives a shit about FFXIV? :-D
