Mafia II: “No other open world city comes close”

mafiaII3

Mafia II’s play-space is the best open game city ever created, according to the title’s senior producer.

“No other open world city comes close with the texture quality, attention to detail and destructibility of our environments,” claimed Denby Grace, speaking to Incgamers.

The developer added: “As well as the story, the level of detail and realization of the world really is an amazing technical achievement for the team here at 2K Czech.”

The game is slated for a release between the beginning of May and the end of July this year, in Take-Two’s third quarter.

Not a giant amount’s known of the game so far, but it did get a video and shots from gamescom last year.

I can’t agree with him, when i base this on what i saw last year in Germany. I saw like 30 minutes of Mafia 2 gameplay, and it looks great…no doubt. But in terms of open world?

I bet it won’t have the impressive things GTA IV has. You can complain all you want about the missions, that they are too much alike and simple and what not. But the atmosphere, the NPC’s and how they react to things, what they do during the game, what they say…all of that..is something that is very very impressive and i have yet to see it done so well in another game. Red Dead Redemption probably.

It does look amazing, but in terms of atmosphere it’s just not as impressive looking as GTA IV. And with that i especially mean the NPC activity. During that private (press) gameplay demonstration i asked one of the developers if this was gonna be like GTA. Meaning…more things to do besides the story missions. And they told me they really focus on the story-experience, a very story-driven game.

So i guess not much sidequests and things like that. And judging from what i’ve seen so far…’fooling around’ looks to be more fun in GTA. But this stuff about a open world and nothing coming close. I’d first have to see what it looks like now…if i have to judge what i saw last year…nah, not even close.

i’m playing ACII right now, and I honestly think that has one of the best open worlds I’ve ever seen. the only problem is no one moves solo, always in clumps of 3-7

That’s a bold statement. Let’s hope they bring it.

Not even Marrowind? That was the most open ended game to date!

I’m really hoping this will be fantastic. They don’t seem to have said much about it for ages, though… hopefully this is the start of the media blowout in the run up to release.

i hope they keep the race track, the air port and the prison island…the church shoot out, the back alleys…the originals had some quality locals i hope the sequel can replicate that
