Some new shots and artwork of Halo: Reach have gotten out.
Shizzam.
If you’re not pumped for this, there is something badly wrong with you. Seriously.
Bungie gets its last piece of that chocolate filled Halo cake out the door this fall for 360.
It’s no Halo 4, though, quite obviously.

That pic in the OP is broken in a number of ways though.

They look good, But when they said new engine i was expecting something better if am being completly honest. Will sell millions of copies tho, its just not the graphical standpoint that MS prove as sony seem to just keep running in terms of graphical leaps and animations.
Peetry said:
I expect that Halo fans will love these, however not being a fan of the series I can’t say I find these appealing (in particular the new battle armor types which IMO look ridiculous). TBH I think the description ‘pumped’ is probably a constant when referencing the halo following, thus probably the best selling game this year.
Blerk said:
The environments look far better than the ones in Halo 3. But those shots have that strange aura of…. not-actually-in-game-ness to them.
Psychotext said:
Some of the stuff is concept art Blerk. Is that what you mean? Like these:

Blerk said:
I only looked at the ones you linked. Are any of those ‘concept art’?
Psychotext said:
I don’t believe so. They’re probably being done with cutscene quality though (like the trailer).
Syrok said:
Oh, great another game that contains next to no primary colours.
Psychotext said:
That’s because everyone said Halo looked to “kiddy” Syrok.
Blame everyone. \o/
(I really like the darker quality… so blame me too.
)
Blerk said:
Yeah, I’m glad someone took their ‘purple’.
ybfelix said:
How’s the reticle in header image being way off center(and red)?
mington said:
@11 maybe its the wii version

As much as i like the Halo series , those purple/pink/light blue colours on the enemy armour always threw me off – it looked really “silly” taken in context with the rest of the game(s) which were pretty “grim” (story/etc).
The desaturated colour palette they’ve chosen for Reach is for the best as it fits better the whole theme of the game imo…
And Syrok , stop playing the shitty LBP and Jump in !!! xD
Also, for those complaining “another brown-ish FPS” , well, a warzone lads isn’t supposed to be filled with colours , rainbows and big PINK billboards , tis’ that – a fecking warzone , dust and debris is the norm , last time i checked those weren’t comprised of pink/purple/fuchsia/blue/light green particles
Just my 2 cents of course…
Syrok said:
The colourfulness of the game was the only thing appealed to me (aside from those funny little guys)
Warzones can be more colourful, just need to stop having them set in autumn or winter and in boring western cities. Get creative developers, especially when you make space games.

I hope they can capture some of the gritty realism of those live action trailers
just imagine you had no idea what halo was, and the first thing you saw was the live action ODST advert, you bought the game off the back of that advert expecting a hardcore gritty battleground, but instead was met with multicoloured turtles running around in circles with there arms in the air squealing like Joe Pasquale.

Blerk said:
The thing that surprised me the most when I first played Halo 3 (having never played a Halo game before) was how stupid it was. I’d somehow imagined it to be this gritty space drama, but actually it was pretty ridiculous – comedy aliens spouting stupid phrases, sub-straight-to-video story and acting, cartoony weapons and landscapes. Not what I was expecting at all, and to be honest…. I can’t quite understand why people love the Halo universe so much.
Psychotext said:
That’s because you started with Halo 3. That’s like starting with the Godfather 3 and wondering what the fuss was all about.
(Yes, it’s a stretched analogy, but it works)
It’s never been particularly serious though. Especially with the comic relief from the Grunts.
Edit – I can’t imagine how annoying Cortana was for someone who started with Halo 3. At least the rest of us had some sort of attachment to her from the previous games (and as such could forgive those shitty interruptions)
Blerk said:
I think I was expecting a Mass Effect sort of tone, but instead it’s more like Republican Space Rangers.
Gekidami said:
Republican Space Rangers is a parody of Halo though so theres little surprise there.
Blerk said:
It sort of feels like the other way around.
The Hindle said:
The first Halo is still the best and always will be had a mystery to it etc in my opinion.
Gekidami said:
Well being serious i’ve always thought that Halo was meant to be a sort of parody of alien movies/space marine games. Though the fact that the plot tries to be serious seems to shoot down my theory.
The Hindle said:
Yea Gekidami i think every James Cameron film tbh
Blerk said:
I think that’s precisely my confusion, Geki. On the one hand it’s trying to be all po-faced and serious and on the other hand it’s like a Saturday morning cartoon. The two moods don’t sit well together and the game (or the setting, at least) just ends up feeling silly.
Bartman said:
The pictures area actually still up on Gamereactor. See link: http://www.gamereactor.se/bild/?textid=20868&id=201502
I can understand that it is hard to find them if you don’t know any swedish though =). Adjust the link so that Gamereactor gets the cred they deserve
.

is there a place in the market for a AAA silly shooter
or should all shooters go down the serious route, and leave the silly stuff for XBLA titles like serious sam
other then earth defence, i can’t really think of any silly shooters this generation…oh sorry i forgot, Rogue Warrior
Syrok said:
They are all a bit silly, if ask me.

Try Google page-translate the Swedish site, result is amazingly readable, better than a lot of my Engrish speaking neighbors’ work;)

I love the Halo franchise, but I do think it is in need of a serious revamp. None of the sequels or spin-offs have made the same impact on me that Halo 1 did, although I guess that’s to be expected.
Halo 2 was disappointing, but fun online, Halo 3 was much improved, and the features (4-player split-screen co-op, free-flow camera and recording, Bungie.net integration) was incredible, and ODST was fun, but ultimately a bit tired.
I’m hoping Bungie have gone ‘balls-to-the-wall’ for this one. It certainly needs to be more than yet another set of open battlegrounds and tight AI.

i will probably never be a halo lover. but i will play halo:reach anyway. when i first played halo 3 i thought it´s absolutely rubbish. i thought, wow all these top reviews for a mediocore shooter with a dull story and a guy in an ugly suit? wtf am i not getting the joke or something…the dialoges were so poor i didn´t know if i should laugh or cry…really like a comicnerd loners wet dream. played a bit. sold the game. didn´t want to waste my time …i played halo 1 back in the days and liked it, but i was a lot younger then…didn´t play halo 2 though…i gave halo 3 another chance and i must say now…once you´re getting over some story/designchoices – it is a great game – technically – the gameplay, the weapons…all this is fun…but the halo universe as a whole doesn´t appeal to me much…i think odst was a bit more clever…i hope that they walk a slightly different path in halo:reach…

I’m not really an xbox man or a halo lover but I admit I am alittle bit intrigued about this one. That’s gotta say something.
Than again after this one bungie ain’t doing ti any more right? Maybe not so good.
Psychotext said:
All the more reason for them to go all out. I’m really interested to know what else they’re working on though.
Johnny Cullen said:
I think I now why the reticle is slap bang not in the middle of the the screen used in the asset.
Maybe I am off my head here, but do feel free to compare to screens in Halo 3 and ODST, but you don’t suppose… that is Natal use for Reach confirmed right there?
Again, this is only my opinion and speculation.
Gekidami said:
Hum, the gun isnt pointing in that direction, and you can see purple blood coming from the enemy just behind the guns muzzle flash indicating that its firing straight and not on the crosshair. So if it is something to do with Natal is isnt directly aiming the gun (but seems tobe the only crosshair on the screen), or it is controlling the gun and the weapons moves at an alarmingly slower rate then your actual weapon.
From what i’ve understood the game will feature to ability to give orders to your team mates, maybe its a marker telling them where to go?
Psychotext said:
Much bigger versions are up on the Bungie site now: http://www.bungie.net/projects/reach/images.aspx?c=59&page=0
Seems there’s also the answer to Blerk’s question there too. The first set of images I linked to were all screenshots, the second set aren’t there at all.
