Final Fantasy character designer Tetsuya Nomura has told Famitsu that there’s not going to be a Final Fantasy VII remake in the near future, but we “could” see Cloud Strife in some game cameos.

Speaking to mag during a review of popular characters in games, Nomura says it’s possible Cloud could be a “guest” in some upcoming titles.

“Fans are looking forward to an oft-rumored remake of FFVII, but I don’t believe this will happen for the time being,” he said (via D’toid). “However, it’s possible that he will appear in other titles as a guest character.”

This reiterates what we were told during GamesCom by Yoshi Kitase and Motomu Toriyama, who said that there’s nothing going on at the moment, so play the PSN release of it for your fix, basically.

According to Andriasang, in the eight-page spread, Cloud’s Advent Children figure gets the cover, and inside there’s a look at his life and and the many games he’s been in.

Nomura also shares the character’s creation process, along with his impact and “possible” future developments. He also points out that the original Cloud had his hair combed back with the front standing up, but the hair-do was changed because he did not “look” the part of the leading man with it.

Cloud’s Buster Sword also, apparently, got much larger during the process as it was “much smaller” in the beginning.

In it, Nomura also says that Cloud has become such a favorite among FF enthusiasts because of the “strong impact from his personality and from Kazushige Nojima’s scenario”.

-_-;; … Just freaking remake it for the PS3. Don’t put that shit on the 360. Give us a remake Square Enix.

i can’t see it happening. Too much hype. although 13 years ago now, a remake would certainly be warrented after such a large amount of time.

I think it’s surprising they’ve not remade VII already. FFI, II, III and IV have all been remade, the first two on PSP and the latter two on DS. Maybe Square also plan to remake V and VI first for the DS before tackling VII?

Of course if they did remake VII for the humble DS I think the fanboy meltdown would be epic.

    Maybe he cameos in Versus.

Not like Japanese are averse to such weird, alternate-reality cameo appearances.

    Japanese love these things…
FFVII had a great story but SE is slowly killing it with so many spin offs

It’s like having Nathan Drake cameo in Killzone 3.

Having said that, it would be pretty funny. I just don’t want them to mix :D

True dat. I think the FF7 world is the most interesting one they have created and I’d both A) Love a remake meshing the parts of the old and the new together and B) the world to be more expanded outside of the could and co bubble. Crisis Core showed us that they make make a game in the world that feels fresh and interesting even if it didn’t stray too much from FF7′s plot ground.

It’s weird that they’re so resistant when people appear so eager. If they leave it much longer, I wonder whether interest will actually start to fall off – turn-based combat RPGs are already having a pretty hard time convincing people to buy, what chance would they have selling one in another five years?

Maybe they’re in proper harcore denial mode?

    Interviewer: is it coming?

@ 1. tatsujin: A remake would indeed be awesome, but why wouldn’t you want to see it released on X360 as well as PS3?
