Kojima reveals that “not many” game ideas come from his team

Hideo Kojima has revealed in the latest issue of OPM that most game ideas come from him and not from the team at Kojima Productions.

When asked for an estimate of how many ideas came from his team, he replied (via CVG):

“Well it’s strange, but not so many ideas come from the other staff. Co-op Ring, Love Box – the names and the ideas come from myself. I am taking charge of the overall game design.”

A PSP bundle featuring Portable Ops, the expansion and the MGS comic arrived on PSN yesterday; PS3 was announced as the “lead platform” for Castlevania: Lords of Shadow; and shots along with details for MGS: Peace Walker were released yesterday.

Shew. Busy week for Kojima-san, there.

Hence why his games are going down the proverbial shitter.

He needs to reigned in and by the sounds of this needs to listen to others so maybe the next metal gear game will have some semblance of coherence to it.

I love the Metal Gear Solid series. Admittedly the first one is the best (and I’ve completed it 20 times to date) but MGS4 was seismic in it’s awesomeness and Peace Walker looks just as good to be honest. I guess he’s a bit marmite tbh. I think he shits gold personally.

Honestly I love Metal Gear… just the more I think about 4 the more I think it needed more control to it.

My favourite is MGS3 as it was a far more contained and focussed story.

So either he has a terrible and unoriginal dev team of yes men working for him or hes an egotistical douche who shuts his team down at any suggestion…

Metal Gear is his life’s work. You can’t blame him for being controlling with it.

I immensely enjoy the Metal Gear series, but one does wonder if perhaps it might be beneficial for him to listen to the other chaps from time to time when it comes to naming things. It’s going to be even harder, no pun intended, to convince non-gamers that Solid Snake is not really supposed to be a knob gag now that we have two other orifices thoroughly catered for with Co-op Ring and Love Box. There’s creativity, and then there’s creativity, and while Hideo tells a good tale, his method of naming things is somewhat suspect. That said, I can’t wait to see Snake whip out a Minge Cannon in MGS5.
