Dark Void review round-up – not so great

darkvoid3

Wuh-oh.

Dark Void reviews have been coming out as of late last week, with scores not being quite as high as they could have been.

Find the full round-up below.

If you have any links to add, do so in the comments.

Dark Void releases for PS3, 360 and PC today in the US, and Friday in the UK.

A demo is out now on PSN, Live and PC.

Gutted…it’s all Blerk’s fault as we surmised a while back. :(

I blame Nolan North over-exposure.

Nah. He’s wonderful.

I thought this was rubbish at Eurogamer. Now I feel vindicated in my thoughts.

I canceled my preorder yesterday and got Brutal Legend for $40, preordered GoW3 Ultimate Ed.,and then bought the Halloween BD for $15(@ another store). So my money was well spent. I’ll buy this when it comes down on price. Gotta say, that demo really did the opposite of what a demo is supposed to do.

You could have got Darksiders instead of Brutal Legend.
Granted it wouldn’t have been as cheap, but it is more fun.

Come on. Who DIDN’T see this coming? Honestly?

It looked like a half-baked gimmick from day one. Shame.

In a similar vain to mington… Could someone post scans for the OPMuk Heavy Rain review scans.

There are some photos in the GT forums but I can’t read them.

For me once again a clear indication that reviews don’t mean anything at the end of the day. The demo wasn’t so special, but the game itself is highly enjoyable. A very good mix of flying, (vertical) combat and platforming. It’s FUN!

I didn’t like the demo, but even if I did and then read all these bad reviews I can’t help but think I’d change my mind…

Sad really =/

i go on my impressions of the demo over the reviews, i think i might have still rented this if there wasn’t a demo

an average rating of 7/10 must be worth a punt…right?

demo says “wrong!”

ooooppps, the average is more like 6/10

there’s a huge golf in my mind between a 7/10 and a 6/10 game, i would never play a 6/10 game (unless it was an evil dead game)

It’s sad that many many people are gonna blindly believe these sites and not even try the game out for themselves.

But that’s just it, Moonwalker. The demo was shit. How do you expect them to recover from a hands-on experience which is supposed to sell their game – that’s as dry, lifeless and as heavy on technical deficiency (tears like nobody’s business, and merely moves competently, as well as being entirely unexhilarating) as that.
There’s no need, or likelihood, frankly, that the review sites would stick the boot in on this one. It just presents itself as a bad game, ill-placed.

If we can’t trust reviews, then we’d never have an idea if a game is worth buying would we?

I don’t know about you Moonwalker but I sure don’t want to buy a shit game.

#28

DaMan

it depends on who’s the reviewer, say Edge are generally fair.

#29

Well he said reviews, as in all of them. He is saying that every person should play every game before deciding if it’s good or not, which is financially impossible over believing the mass opinion of worldly videogamers.

(actually, he’s not saying that at all, I just took his statement to an extreme)(I can do that you know)

Demo + reviews = A decent idea of a games quality. Or in the case of Dark Void; lack there of.

@Geki

Agreed.

If the general consensus of reviewers (aka professional critics) say the game is mediocre than I don’t see why I should spend any money renting it let alone buying it.

With all the (seemingly) great games on the horizon there is no way I’ll gamble my money or spare time on a game that is receiving middling reviews.

I just don’t get why the used the UE3. A game that involves flying around big area’s has no place near that engine. When flying you can see the area’s are really low quality until you brush past them. It’s like wasted art.

I’d love to say Airtight were lazy but I doubt that’s it.

UE3 is a quick fix, Airtight most likely wanted to work on getting the flying mechanics right and making sure you’re given enough freedom but maintain a sense of direction, so they’re would be a lot of bugs to iron out if they built their own propriety engine.

I think =/

I agree with you all, the demo really wasn’t too special. So i was very surprised how incredibly fun it looked when i watch a gameplay video of the beginning of the game, on Youtube. After awhile…like 110 minutes later..lol.i had been watching the dude playing it all the time and i was very impressed with it.

And i personally think when i watch that much of a game, even though it’s not me playing it…i can judge it that way. So i suggest you watch a few videos. I also spoke to the person and he actually loves the game. It’s the same with The Saboteur, all those reviews, but i love the game and i spoke to plenty of people who love it as well.

@ Moonwalker: Horses for courses, innit. My fave game of last year was Bionic Commando, which wasn’t exactly well-received in the press. That said, it *still* scored better than Dark Void, so…

Bionic Commando is also lots of fun, i really dig it. And didn’t Prototype had plenty of low scores as well from some sites? Well….i freakin love that game.
