First BioShock 2 reviews are in, over 90%

BioShock 22

PSM3 and PC Gamer (via CVG) have the first reviews of BioShock 2 in the world, with both mags giving the game over 90 percent.

PSM3 went for 93 percent [Much better than 92 percent - Ed], saying it “tops the original in terms of storytelling and combat,” while PCG awarded it 90 percent.

They said: “It’s still better written than pretty much anything else out there.”

The 2k shooter is out on February 9 for PS3, 360 and PC.

I’ve yet to get excited about this…

Kind of expected 90plus scores so i’m still not too excited.

To me, it seems like there wasn’t much call for a Bioshock sequel.

I must be alone in not really liking Bioshock. I gave up on the first one as it just didn’t really do it for me. I really should try and finish it at some point. 2nd one looks more of the same to me.

My hatred of firstperson shooters extends to RPGs like this, Oblivion and Fallout 3.

I just can’t handle the inertia of FPS games. I’m missing out on some pearlers, but I just can’t get into them.

Shame

Loved the first one but have managed to somehow avoid reading too much regarding this one, i do plan on getting it, its just a matter of when with all the decent games coming out!

No, a lot of people didn’t love the first one, me included. Beatifully designed, but quite slow and a bit repetitive.

I’m not too fussed about this one, if I’m honest. Will probably still try it though.

I’ve said it on other forums… but for some reason I just can’t get interested in this. It’s strange, because Bioshock is still one of my favourite games this generation and I should really be all over Bioshock 2.

I thought the first one was brilliant, but I’m having a little trouble getting excited about the sequel, oddly. I’ll still get it, though. And probably enjoy it again.

Probably one of the most unnecessary sequels ever.

I also echo comments here. B2 always looked and sounded more like DLC or expansion pack to me than a sequel. Still, I probably won’t be able to resist once it’s released..

It’ll be good. And you all smell of elderberries you PSWee loving fanbots.

I bet it runs marginally better, though mostly indiscernible to the human eye, on the Masterbox 3600 too. In your faces!

Is there any word on what the multiplayer is like yet? I’m intrigued but cannot see how the plasmids will translate into a competitive arena…

Seems like it’s fanboy day here at VG247.

Maybe cause the first game was so brilliant there is no chance no 2 could be any better. Im in the same boat PT and Blerk

funny thing is I played the demo of 1 and did not really like it yet I hear only good things about it.
I might try this one.

Exactly this. It’s nice to hear that this game is good and I will get it. But the success of the first bioshock is something that I can’t imagine can be easily replicated for sequels and even then bioshock 1 was the one game that DID NOT need a sequel but it got one anyway….and with MP tagged on >_>

Now if it was a prequel… oh baby. I’d be evangelising it all over the place.

Obviously, I shouldn’t have said all of you, but I was rushiing to get dinner.

But still!

It’s not that I don’t want it… it’s that I have pretty much no excitement for it.

(It’s batshit mental, the first one was the game that got me to buy a 360)

@Johnny

I can’t speak for others but in my case it’s the kinda ‘been there done that’ apathy I have when I look at it.

I played the first and loved it but I can’t see too many changes that make me get excited.

Also, with it coming out in the same time period as games like Heavy Rain, Final Fantasy XIII, God of War III etc… it’s hard to justify the purchase.

I have the same problem with this and a lot of other games. Way too much repetition out there. So many games look, feel, play like so many other games. And of course as would be the case, sequels are esp bad.

Often times I think I am done gaming. Too many big name awesome games rolling out that I couldn’t care less about playing. I honetly can’t see me playing games 10 yrs from now, then again i can’t see me not playing games either.

But way way too much of the been there and done that(to death) feelings these days.

This is hillarious listening to all you old folk whining about not getting the interest up for games!

Didn’t know most of the commenters were whiny old zombies. XD

(Actually, that’s probably why vg247 rocks. The average age of posters has to be 25+) \o/

The great thing about that statement Aperson, is that someday you will be in the exact same boat.

Thats the thing PT, each year the game demographic just gets older. Young kids, they think they own the world. He will get things figured out eventualy. Of course by the time he does, he might be one of those old Zombie types himself.

I don’t think the lack of excitement is that unusual. The first BioShock was — at least narratively and aesthetically — very different to what gamers were used to. Naturally a sequel isn’t going to have the same breath of fresh air about it, although it doesn’t really help that what’s been shown of the game looks about as adventurous as beans on toast.

That said I’m confident it’ll be a good game at the very least. Jordan Thomas is the creative director and he has a reassuring track record, but I don’t think the sequel has been marketed very well.

Jeez, well I’ll just say that I pre-ordered two different Collector’s Editions from different suppliers, about a month ago.

I am raaaaaather looking forward to this.

Pessimism makes for much more interesting conversations.

I can’t stand multiple threads of ‘game looks awesome, day one buy, yeah sweet’!
