EA Europe VP Jens Uwe Intat has said that despite the fact there’ll be fewer EA games released this year, what does make it out will reek of quality.

Reiterating John Riccitiello’s less is more comment back in December, when he stated EA will release 20 percent fewer games in the next financial year, Intat agreed that quality instead of quantity will remain the focus for 2010 and beyond.

“Our aim is to do less games and do them better”, he told MCV. “I think in the past maybe people have rushed into too many projects at the same time and have probably been spoiled by the overall industry growth, because it meant that if you didn’t have proper portfolio management, the punishment wasn’t particularly harsh.

“But in a more mature market (and I don’t just mean older, I mean more professional), portfolio management becomes more important and it’s something we’re working on. And that’s across the whole organization, not just development.

“You also have to focus your publishing resources – both people and money. You can achieve much more if you leverage fewer, bigger franchises.

“I can’t tell you exactly how many less games we’ll release in 2010, but it will be less”.

During the same interview, Intat stated that EA plans to use its strongest IP on all platforms and in all areas, and when Natal and Sony’s motion controller hit the market, EA will have games “that work with both controllers at launch”.

My guess is that EA are doing less games because they have less staff available after the massive layoffs! That doesn’t amount to better games per se.

Given that English isn’t his first language I’ll forgive him this once:

Fewer games. Not less games. Fewer games.
