CES: Alan Wake to recieve post-launch DLC

Microsoft confirmed at its CES keynote last night that Alan Wake will get post-launch DLC this year.
The announcement was made by Microsoft’s head of Entertainment & Devices division Robbie Bach.
“Imagine the TV show Lost, as written by Stephen King, and filmed by David Lynch, and you have Alan Wake. Story driven like a TV series, Alan Wake will be told in episodes, with even more episodes available on Xbox Live after it’s launch this year,” said Bach.
What the DLC will contain was not announced.
The game is due in the spring, announced by writer Sam Lake at E3 last June. It could be out around May, according to reports.
Some new shots for the game were released yesterday.

I think it’s only a news story now if new releases AREN’T receiving some form of post-launch DLC.

That’s game development I’m afraid. The creation of DLC is now factored in to a title’s development process, meaning that DLC is developed alongside the disc-based content, but held back for release later on.
On the one hand, you could argue that as long as you’re using ‘additional’ resources that wouldn’t have otherwise been working on the main game, then DLC is somewhat justified (it has to be paid for somehow, after all), but what’s generally happening is that teams are simply cutting back on content originally intended for the main game.
